Starting Friday, Nov. 16 in Cobourg and ending Nov. 25th with Saltfleet. The opening game of the Cobourg Tournament saw the Bell Boys facing Trenton, and as in the past one of the better games of the year was about to be played. When the last shot was shot and the last save saved, Trenton had skated off with a very disappointing 4 - 3 victory. Scoring for the Bell Boys was Troy Harness, unassisted, Gareth Stone from Eric Janssens and Mark Tripp, Gareth Stone from Brad Carnegie and Mark Tripp. In this game Troy Harness was named MVP for Bowmanville. In the second game despite an MVP for goal tender Burke Lush, the boys played rather lack lustre and lost 4 - 2 to Port Perry, The Bell scoring coming coming from Craig deBlois assisted assisted by Rob Real and Brad Carnegie from Eric Janssens and Gareth Stone. In the third and final game The first game on Saturday, November 17th must have been missing from the Toby's Pub players schedule as only six showed for their game against Courtice Auto Wreckers. Toby's started fast with a goal by S. Pollard, his first of four for the evening, and maintained a 1 to 0 lead through the first period. A. Junkin, with only 22 seconds off the clock in the second, notched his first of two goals, to bring Courtice to as close as they would ever come to Toby's constant lead. Courtice tried to play 'catch up' hockey with L. Bielaski, last year's most improved ' player, knocking in his first (goal of the season, as they ended up on the short end of the wrecking bar in Toby's Pub's 5 to 3 victory. Shots on goal: Courtice 30, Toby's 26. It became apparent in the late game that San Marino's was missing their top 'point getter' E. Strand, who is still out of the line-up with a shoulder injury. The Flying Dutchman scored twice in six shots, in the first, to take the lead. Close checking by the Dutchman kept San Marino's shooters at bay as they managed only two shots in each of the first two periods. W. Alder and E. Coscarella tried to take up the scoring slack for ■ San Marino's but were overrun as the balanced Dutchman spread their seven goals among six players with B. Caron scoring two. Despite the score of 7 to 2 for the Dutchman, this was an excellent game with shots on United Wtiy goal - 24 for the Dutchman and 12 for San Marino's, with only two minor penalties assessed, both to San Marino's. "Ugly pills" must have been dropped into last night's beer, as the early Sunday game saw Clinic Pharmacy hold on as their Division antagonists, the Twin Brand Orchard (Beasties) tried to sink their teeth in Clinic's first place apple. Penalties played an important part in the game as a total of 13 minors were assessed in what could be described as a fast, physical contest which ended with a score of 4 to 2 in favor of Clinic. G. Hillis of Clinic, took advantage of a Beastie in the box as he scored the only marker in the first at 7:15. As fate would have it, B. Alldred (Beasties) tied the game in the third as Hillis sat out a minor. L. Jay scored what proved to be the winner for Clinic with 6:48 remaining in the game and linemate J. Allen, who is finally out of his scoring! slump, put things away with 55 seconds deft toi go, his second goal of the game. This close match saw shots on goal recorded at Clinic 23, Beasties 22. • Shopper's Drug Mart must have thought they had pulled the plug on Barrett Electric as they had a 3 to 0 lead at the end of the first period. Three minor penalties, in the second, gave Barrett the opportunity they needed to get back on track, scoring with a Shopper's player in the box. K. Rowe again took advantage of shorthanded Shopper's early in the third, as Barrett pulled to within one goal of Shopper's. Almost three minutes later K. Rowe pocketed his second goal of the game to round out the scoring, leaving things tied at 3 to 3. Shots on goal were close at 23 to 21 for Barrett, but Shopper's had the edge in penalties-5 to 2. Boys was Troy Heritage House Ties Pickering Last Week On Wednesday, Nov. 21, the Heritage House Pee Wee Toros travelled to Pickering for a league game looking for revenge against a Pickering Club that had nipped the Bowmanville boys 2 - 0 when they last met at Darlington. Although being outshot 37 - 18, the steady, stand-up style exhibited by goaltender Chris Albin kept the Toros in the contest. Only a goal late in the third period enabled Pickering Pickering to tie the score at three. Goal scorers were Paul Woodlock unassisted, Todd Banks from Brendan Donohue and Shawn McFadyen and Martin D'Entrement from Paul Woodlock. Three stars were No. 1 Chris Albin, No. 2 Paul Woodlock and No. 3 Brad Banks. Saturday, Nov. 25 saw the Pee Wee Toros host Orono for an exhibition game at Darlington. Some minor line-up changes by Coach White enabled him to put out three effective forward forward lines as well as some very strong defensive combinations. combinations. Full marks to the local lads for this win. Leading the attack for Bowmanville once again was Paul Woodlock who is having a banner season with two goals and two assists, and Shawn McFadyen with a goal and an assist. Other scorers were Bucky Wicks (first of the season), Brooke Clemens and Todd Banks. Assists were earned by Kevin Farrow, Brendan Donohue and Todd Banks. Three stars were -1. Shawn McFadyen, 2. Paul Woodlock and 3. Brooke Clemens. The Bowmanville boys finished the weekend by travelling to the Children's Arena in Oshawa on Sunday, Nov. 26 for a clash with the Little N.H.L. Canadians. In this contest the Toros fell behind 3 to 0, including tiVo power play markers but rallied for goals by Paul Woodlock from Todd Banks in the second period and Chris Forsey from Brooke Clemens and Dave Smith in the third to make the final 3 to 2. This was an exciting, action filled match which made selecting individual "Stars" a difficult task. However, the parents were impressed with the following three players - First Star Tom White, Second Star Chris Forsey and Third Star Kevin Farrow. Future games - Tuesday, Nov. 27 in Brooklin against Whitby and Saturday Dec. 1, 4 p.m. at Darlington against Markham. the Toros played Oshawa Canadians and skated off with a well deserved 4 - 2 victory. The Bell scoring was done by Kevin Flintoff from Mark Tripp and Guy Freeman, Ken Hall from Rob Real and Craig de Blois, Eric Janssens from Gareth Stone, Craig de Blois unassisted. M.V.P. for this game was Mark Tripp. This win was the start of good things to come as the boys moved on to Oshawa Rotary and played solid stand- up hockey to record the second victory in a row with a 3 - 2 score. Solid defense and goal highlighted this game. Scoring for the Bell Boys were Eric Janssens from Troy Harness and Guy Freeman, Brad Carnegie from Gareth Stone and Britt Cole, Troy Harness from Craig deBlois and Guy Freeman. On Friday, Nov. 23 the Toro Bell Boys entered the Saltfleet Tournament starting Friday with Midland and skating off with a well played 3 - 2 victory. Saturday saw Mooretown the victim as Bowmanville won 6 - 2. Sunday saw the bubble burst as the boys faced Orangeville and suffered a 10 - 0 set back. The fourth and final game pitted the boys against Saltfleet and another loss 9 - 2. With the first two games hard work paid off in the well deserved wins. In the second two fortitude showed through as the boys fought to the end in the losing cause. As recognition recognition of this effort and not getting down the boys were awarded the most Sportsmanlike Sportsmanlike Team Trophy. Also awarded to the Bell goal keeper Darrin Bunker was the dream Team All Star selection for the tournament. The boys' next game is Saturday, Dec. 1 at Darlington at 8;30 p.m. against Oshawa Rotary. Oshawa Canadians provided the first opposition. The two teams played three- excellent periods of hockey with the action going from end to end. At the end of regulation time, the score was tied at one. Bowmanville advanced to the second round on the championship side by virtue of the fact that they had scored the first goal. Both teams played scoreless hockey through the first period. Bowmanville opened the scoring at the 16 second mark of the second period on a blistering shot from the blue line by Tim Smith. Chad and Todd Doirin drew assists. Oshawa responded with their goal at the 1:23 mark. Scott Hanthorn played goal for the Toros and made many fine saves. This was one of the better games played by the team this year with each team member putting forth a good effort. The second game in the tournament for the Fifth Wheel team turned out to be a one-sided affair in favor of Port Perry. Bowmanville was defeated 8-1 in a penalty- ridden game. The many penalties proved to be the undoing of the Toros. Bowmanville's lone goal was scored at 1:37 of the second period by Tim Smith on an assist by Greg Gardner. This was Tim's second tournament goal. Kevin Zaroshy made many excellent saves in the Toro goal in spite of the strong opposition. In regular league play, during the past week Bowmanville was defeated 6-1 by Port Perry and 12-0 by Ajax. On Friday night, in the Port Perry arena, the home team opened the scoring early in the first period with Bowmanville replying each in the second. At the 1:00 minute mark, Scott Munro directed in a shot from Tim Smith. The rest of the scoring in the game belonged to Port Perry. The next game for the Bantam 2's will be on Friday when they travel to Markham and next Sunday when they take part in a tournament in Wellington. Hard working Stan Konarowski chipped in two assists, while Don Farrow and Darcy Ritchie recorded singles. Game three was also a tie, as Town Sports and Bowmanville Golf and Country Club knotted the score at 3 each. Bill Prentice, Sandy Brown and Mark Matthews scored for Town Sports, assists going to Jim Baker with two, Matthews and Prentice. Kevin Tink with two, and Doug Crough supplied the scoring for Bowmanville Golf, assists going to Crough, Ron Jukic and Wade Preston.
