Checker's Variety Loses to Oshawa On Saturday, Nov. 17, the Checkers Pee Wee Selects played against North Oshawa. They dropped their first decision of the year on the short end of a 3-1 score. The game was very close and the play reflected this. The goaltending of North Oshawa and the play of their defence proved to be the difference. They were relentless on Bowmanville forwards in their end and as a result the scoring opportunities were few. The first period was fast and evenly played. North Oshawa drew first blood at the end of the period with a goal. Half a minute later centre Cory Chambers jumped on a loose puck and quickly deposited it for the Bowmanville Squad's only score. The game was tied entering the second period, a period, which the home side played shorthanded most of the time. The penalties finally caught up to them as North Oshawa centre Brad Lyons scored twice on the same shift to close the period. The Checkers team did not give up playing good hockey in the final frame. Oshawa goaltender Darryl Shaw thwarted two breakaways in the third period. The defensive pairs of Brett Rosnak and Larry Morrison, Dustin Couch and Steve Kay, Chris Raby and Ken Cornish played strongly throughout the match. Goaltenders Brett Lambert and Roger Leblanc were steady. It was an exciting match and the defensive play of North Oshawa forced the Bowmanville forwards to execute more passes. Lessons learned in this game will further their team play. Christmas Sate We are REALLY DEALING on all 1984 and 1985 cars in stock.
