PONTYPOOL NEWS Speedy get-well wishes are sent to Gwen Gillespie who underwent major surgery this past week. We are all pulling for you, Gwen. Congratulations and best wishes again to Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Cain who were honoured by family and friends on the occasion of their 60 th wedding anniversary. This very happy event took place on Saturday, Dec. 1st in the Pontypool Community Centre. A steady stream of people greeted Mr. and Mrs. Cain during the afternoon when the ladies of the Pontypool Pontypool U.C.W. prepared and served the lunch. At the dinner hour, thirty some relatives and friends sat down with Mr. and Mrs. Cain to a sumptuous meal prepared by the family. During the afternoon, Deputy- Reeve Bob Brown presented several scrolls, plaques, etc. from dignitaries. On Sunday, Dec. 2nd the Sunday School held its annual White Gift Service when toys and clothing were donated for the Crossroads Transition Home in Peterborough. The service was taken wholly by the members of the Sunday School with Christina Sytnyk taking the part of leader. The three astronauts taking part in the conversations were Paula Bryant, Christopher Turner and Anna Kukasch. Chad VanDam was Joseph and Pamela Quirk was Mary. All the other Sunday School children had a share in the service - angels, shepherds, wisemen, choir. The girls and boys in the choir sang "The Little Drummer Boy." At the close of the service, Donna Bryant called Jessie Fisk to come forward and to Jessie's great surprise, she was presented presented with the pictorial history history of Ontario, "Loyal She Remains." This presentation, by Donna Bryant and Clerk of Session, Frank Stacey, was on behalf of Pontypool United Church and Pontypool Sunday School. Jessie, who recently moved to Lindsay, has been a dedicated worker in the Pontypool United Church for many years filling many offices - Sunday School Superintendent, Superintendent, U.C.W. President and Clerk of Session. Her shoes will be difficult to fill. Reeve George Neals and Mrs. Neals celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Saturday, Dec. 1st, when they were "At Home" to their relatives, friends and colleagues colleagues at the Manvers Community Community Centre. A family dinner, catered by the Manvers Arena Auxiliary, was held in the evening with a dance following. Our congratulations congratulations to the honoured couple! Gordon Britton has been a patient in hospital in Oshawa for the past week. Our thoughts are with him in his illness. At the service on Sunday in Ballyduff Presbyterian Church, eighteen new members joined the church. They were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stacey and their three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Myles and their two children, Clifford Preston, Leta Olan, Mrs. Walker (recently moved here from B.C.), Lome Farrow, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gauthier and Mrs. Gauthier's mother, Helen , Smith and Ivan Pollard and daughter. Get-well wishes are forwarded forwarded to Ivan Pollard who suffered a heart attack recently recently and is in Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay. Street signs have been erected erected in the village. This is a centennial project carried out by the Pontypool Residents' Association. This association is holding a "Breakfast with Santa" on Sunday, Dec. 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pancakes will be served, Santa Claus will be present and there will be lots of surprises surprises for the children. The Association is hoping for a good turnout. Two of our local families will be moving elsewhere early in the new year. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Donohue, Payne Street, have sold their home and will be moving to Oshawa. Mr. Donohue is the present president of the Pontypool Keenagers. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Guthenberg of Corbett Drive have also sold their home and have purchased a residence in Whitby. Both families will be greatly missed 1 At the last euchre, winners were Mary Thompson of Leskard and Stanley Wright. Don't forget that the next euchre, Thursday, Dec. 13th, will commence with a Pot- Luck Supper at 6:00 p.m. Meat is being supplied. All are welcome.
