ii\)t (Dmiinan Statesman Many Friends Honor Retiring Arena Manager Section Two A special event took place Friday night at Newcastle Arena. It began with the unveiling of a plaque unveiled by Ron Hope, Chairman of the Arena Fund-Raising and Management Committees. The plaque acknowledged the committee's appreciation of the considerable help they had received from individuals, organizations and businesses in helping to raise the funds rèquired. Here is Mr. Hope alongside the second plaque below the provincial Wintario project plaque. The second part of the evening was to honor the arena's popular manager, Roy f Duckie' Neads who had played a major role in the arena's success since it opened in 1978 and had retired this year. Mayor Garnet Rickard was the first speaker, commenting that he was a former schoolmate of Duckie's and they had been friends for many years. He presented the honored guest with a special plaque, designating the meeting room as 'The Roy (Duckie) Neads room. « -- - - - Mike Doyle and Roger Brady represented Busters Oldtimers and the Forum Flyers Oldtimers. Several presentations by local organizations were made to Mr. Neads, including one from the Village of Newcastle Minor Hockey group. Ron Featherstonehaugh and Paul Collison made the presentation. Diane Aus made the presentation on behalf of the Hockey Mothers Association. Kinettes Sell Gifts at Flea Market Bowmanville's Mall was a busy spot on Sunday where the weekly flea market included a table filled with special Christmas gift items. Bowmanville Kinettes Shirley Masterson, daughter Marsha and Carol Foote were in charge when this photo was taken. He was to make a brief address as well as do the plaque unveiling followed by the presentation of the provincial and federal flags being held by Ray Woods and Ron Hope. Master of Ceremonies Ron Hope also represented Mr. Cureatz in presenting Mr. Neads with a plaque from the province and a gift from the Management Committee.
