Congratulations to our neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Tamblyn who on Saturday, Dec. 1 celebrated 49 years of marriage. The couple were entertained at a family dinner party Saturday evening evening at the New Dutch Oven, and afterwards spent the evening with close friends and relatives at Sharon and David Staples. Mrs. Frances Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Gray and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dayes, Nestle- ton attended The Peoples Church, last Sunday evening, Nov. 25, to hear Mrs. Sutton's nephew Rev. Bud Elford as guest speaker. His topic "His Work with Indians", and Rev. Elford comes from Prince Albert, Sask. and has worked for the past 30 years with the Indian people. Rev. Elford has three sons all in the Ministry and his son Roan was a guest speaker here several years ago. Our Orono U.C.W. supports the Roan Elfords in their missionary missionary work. A note of further interest, Mrs. Bella Elford, speaker's mother, celebrating her 89th birthday, was also in attendance at The Peoples Church. Mrs. Bill McNaul, Oshawa and Mrs. Carl Billings visited Mr. and Mrs. John Rickard at their home near Woodville, last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wannan and family, Belleville spent the past weekend visiting his mother, Mrs. Doris Wannan. Mrs. Carl Kimmett visited Mrs. Dorothy Bailey and Mrs. Eileen Billings last Thursday. Reminder to all card players, of card party in Leskard Church Hall on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Lome Bowins attended the Sunday school concert held in Kingsview United Church, Oshawa, on Sunday afternoon. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Coin, Pontypool, who on Saturday, Dec. 1st, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. Mrs. Coin is a sister of Mrs. Laverne Patterson, Orono. Best wishes for a happy retirement to my former neighbor, Mrs. Irene Hortsma, who recently retired from Curvply Wood Products after serving 21 years. Christmas Party The Orono Jr. Gardeners held their Christmas meeting in the form of a pizza party at the home of their leader, Helen Robinson. After pizza the Jrs. were served homemade homemade Christmas cookies, made by leader Shelley Anne Zegers. The members had an exciting time playing games and talked about what they would like for Christmas. Special Junior guests at the party were young Jason Zegers and Nicholas Boyd. Everyone went home with a bag of Christmas goodies and a surprise presentation to our leaders Shelley Anne and Helen of a lovely bouquet of carnations from Kevin Scott. Town Hall Card Party The regular Orono Town Hall board card party was held Wednesday evening, Nov. 28. The next card party will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, 8 p.m. St. Saviours Church News The Sacrament of Holy Baptism and Communion and White Gift Sunday were celebrated celebrated on Sunday morning and Christine and Lisa Johnson, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Johnson were baptized by Rev. Haldenby. Sidespersons Sandra Anderson Anderson and Beryl Clark and server Leanne Johnson took part in the service. The St. Saviour's A.C.W. held their December meeting in the John Breen Hall with a pot-luck dinner. Advent Season began Sunday, Dec. 2. We had our usual Advent Wreath and Candles on Sunday. Church Caring - At the meeting last Wednesday the group decided to co-ordinate efforts and to further the work of those who have been sending sending cards, working on Operation Operation Casseroles and God's Groceries, and to look for other ways of caring. Deanery Fellowship of Prayer - Cancelled because of last Monday's fog will be held now Monday, Dec. 10 at St. John's, Port Hope, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Orono Explorer Girls News We have enjoyed a very busy fall so far and are now preparing for Christmas activities. The girls enjoyed a great Hallowe'en party and prizes were given to Den MacKey, Andrea Ferguson, and Adel Nixon for their excellent excellent costumes. A report about their week at Camp Quin-Mo- Lac was given by Allison Cochrane, Carrie Henderson and Michelle Ross at this meeting also. The first year girls have finished their Explorer books and now understand the meaning of becoming an explorer. The second and third year girls have finished their study of the Ten Commandments and have made a booklet about them. We will be making a Christmas craft and will be participating with the Christmas Christmas hampers for the needy. We are taking part in lighting lighting of Candles for Advent Sunday and are practicing our Christmas music. Rev. We are pleased to report both Everett and Bob are expecting to be home this week, following following surgery.
