1 I 12 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 19,1984 Section Two Deputy District Governor Visits Lions Club ELIZABETHVILLE Winner Receives $1,000 in Lions Draw The seniors met on Thursday Thursday as usual when about forty gathered at the Legion, Port Hope, and enjoyed our Christmas dinner. After dinner, we met at the Camp- bellcroft hall and played euchre. After the Dec. 14th meeting we will not meet again until January. On Friday evening the 4-H clubs held their achievement day at Kirby school. There were not as many clubs attending attending as usual. Mrs. E. Fowler got home on Friday for the weekend and had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Garry Fowler, Stirling, along with Mr. Fowler, Mrs. N. Sevenhuysen, Cheyanna, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew. Church services were held as usual. The choir had an anthem. Mrs. Chyrl Murray lit the second advent candle and Rev. Rutherford spoke on the life of Mary, Mother of Jesus. Mr. White and Mr. Munroe took up the offering. Coffee was served as usual. Sympathies are extended to the relatives and friends in the death of the late Charley James, Cobourg, and Mrs. Mary Quantrill, Bowmanville. Mrs. Dekoker and friend Judy, visited at Mr. and Mrs. H. T^'ckson's on Sunday. Mrs. Westheuser and girls were also here. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer had Shirley Copping and Harold Beatty for a game of cards an evening last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock had the twins home on the weekend. Several attended the funeral of the late Bill Elliott last week, and also Charley James on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew spent a couple of days at Stirling with Garry and Helen who were at Wingham ordering ordering a house for a customer over the weekend. Mr. Thickson spent Wednesday with Mrs. E. Fowler in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer called on Mr. and Mrs. S. Kennedy, Orono, on Saturday. Roy Watts is $1,000 richer following last Friday night's. Lions club draw. Mr. Watts held the winning ticket sold to him by Lion Bill Belfour. Bill received $100 for selling the winning ticket. Presenting the prizes is Draw Chairman Maurice Richards. In addition to bringing his medical expertise expertise to the Board, Mr. Angl is also a member of the Bowmanville Bowmanville Rotary Club which donated 50% of the cost of Newcastle's first Handi Transit van. This low-cost transportation transportation service for the handicapped handicapped celebrated its third anniversary in the Town of Newcastle in October. October. Currently, the van is making 200-300 trips per month to take disabled persons persons to and from school, Day Hospital, medical appointments, appointments, shopping, etc. All persons with disabilities which make use of an ordinary ordinary car difficult are eligible eligible for the service. The van is especially equipped to carry wheelchairs. Handi Transit Inc. is a non-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors Directors who make policy and financial decisions. The second Board member for Newcastle is Pat Rundle who has served on the Board since 1981. Day-to- day operations are handled by General Manager, Doug Manuel.
