Mayor Draws Ticket for Jaycees Doll Lord Elgin Elves Make Acting Debut These little elves made their first acting debut at the Lord Elgin School Christmas Concert last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Ed Rowe and Tiffany, Bowmanville visited Wednesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Trim. On Tuesday evening, Mrs. Isabelle Trim attended the Past Noble Grands of Orono Rebekah Lodge Christmas party and dinner held at St. Saviour's Anglican Church in Orono. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Silvester, Sarnia spent Wednesday and Thursday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stark. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stark and Mr. and Mrs. Basil Kazakos and Zoe, all of Knoxville visited Thursday morning with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stark. ELIZABETHVILLE and DISTRICT On Thursday, we held our last senior citizens' meeting for 1984. Not as big a crowd as usual. The Lions presented a tin of cookies to each family. Mrs. Joyce Fowler came home on Thursday. She reported reported that the lodge had a Christmas dinner and presented presented patients with a basket of gifts. She returned on Sunday to the hospital for chemotherapy. chemotherapy. On Wednesday, the 12th, the general meeting of the U.C.W. was held at Garden Hill. The church was decorated for Christmas with twin Christmas Christmas trees and a candle arrangement which was later used in a dialogue, by the ladies. Mrs. Davis president, presided and Mrs. Gardiner had the minutes of the last meeting. Mrs. Munroe had the devotional program. A story on the blind boy was also read. Duets and quartettes fitted in between the skits and dialogues dialogues sung by Mrs. J. Smith, Mrs. E. Gray, Mrs. Aiken, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Gardiner and Miss Davis. Mrs. Howe, Mrs. Gardiner and Mrs. Trew lit candles, Mrs. Quantri.ll had the story of the blind boy who learned to sing. . Mrs. Peacock and Mrs. Trew told the story of the first Christmas with posters. At the close the ladies sat down to a delicious pot luck dinner. We plan a planning meeting Jan. 16th at 1 p.m. at Mary Gardiner's home. Sympathies are extended to relatives and friends in the passing of the late Mrs. Mary Quantrill, Bowmanville, this week. The advent candle was lit by Shanon Martin, Shelly McMurray, Michele Smith, Donna Scott, Leah Fenton, and Sarah Campbell. Rev. Rutherford continued the service with a baptismal service when Elizabeth Louise Pringle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pringle was baptized. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill assisted and presented the certificate. Scripture was taken from Matt. 1:18- 25. Rev. Rutherford had the children's story. He spoke on the life of Joseph. Mary, mother of Jesus's husband. Mr. Munroe and Mr, H. White took up the offering. Mrs. Wheeler greeted us at the door. Coffee was served as usual. At 10:30 the congregation congregation went to the Sunday School room where a Christmas Concert was held. Most of the congregation stayed. The different classes had some kind of entertainment. The senior girls put on a dialogue which they had written. The boys' class had a dialogue. The hit of the concert was a radio talk show put on by Miss Michele Smith, a project which she had to do at school. She had made a pasteboard television and she talked behind it, changing her voice for different parts - a real comic talk. Sandwiches and cookies were served by the Sunday school. We had a Santa too. At 7:00 p.m. in the evening, the Elizabethville Sunday school had their concert. The leaders are to be congratulated congratulated on the excellent program. There are over thirty children attending. Mark Peacock was M.C. Mrs. B. Burton the pianist. Several mothers assisted Mrs. J. Peacock, the superintendent superintendent of the Sunday school. Santa made a cull at the close and he did an excellent job and is to be congratulated. Sandwiches Sandwiches and cake were served.
