l 0 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 26,1984 NON-CONTACT HOCKEY With only seven games remaining in the schedule, Toby's Pub may have decided that it was time to make their move, as they defeated Shopper's Drug Mart 7 to 4, in Saturday's early game. By the end of the first period, the score was tied at two apiece, with Shopper's being assessed the only minors, giving Toby's two power play opportunities. G. Powell scored four times for Toby's, once in the first and second, and twice in the third period. G. James, Shopper's, netted a pair including including one on a power play late in the third, as Shopper's managed to outshoot Toby's 31 to 25 and also to take the edge in penalties at 3 to 1. In Saturday's second game, maybe it was the fact that the Flying Dutchma team was going to a party after the game that put them in such a 'giving mood' and give it to Clinic Pharmacy they did! Besides winning with a 7 to 3 score, the Dutchmen also out- shot Clinic 35 to 18 and led in penalties at the end of the game 5 to 2. Leading 4 to 0 late in the second B. Robert's shutout was threatened by a penalty shot, assessed to his team for falling on the puck in the crease. Coach P. Lange for Clinic selected G. Hillis to take the shot at the 15:26 mark of Don't Make a Move!! without Our Hostess' Gifts and Information Information are the Key to Your New Community Call Sandra Yates 623-5873 Ihi Uni | H tft »i pit w»rtf the period. This was the first penalty shot in years in this league and it could not have been any closer. G. Hillis tried to deck B. Roberts and hit the post. However, less than one minute later, G. Hillis got his revenge and this time shot between the uprights to score. T. Fennell scored three limes for the Dutchman and B. Janitsch managed to glow on two power play goals for Clinic. Leading 6 to 2 going into the third was not quite enough for San Marino's to maintain their lead over Twin Brand Orchards Orchards in the early bird game Sunday. All periods saw fast, excellent excellent hockey, as the Beasties tried to play catchup hockey. It was not until the last three minutes that the final outcome was decided. San Marino's took a penalty for body contact contact and managed to shut down Twin Brand's power play by dumping the puck down the ice. Just after that penalty expired, San Marino's were assessed a penalty for a slap shot, taken when simply clearing the puck. Twin Brand buzzed around San Marino's net, looking for that one shot and they finally found it with six seconds left on the clock. B. Shantz scored to tie the game 3 to 3. Shots on goal in this excellent end to end game were 16 to 10 in favour of Twin Brand Orchard's Beasties. Courtice Auto Wrecker's look a page from Toby's Pub's book, as they defeated Barrett Electric 6 to 4, to remain one point ahead of Toby's. Courtice had a 3 to 0 lead until Barrett came back with three in a row of their own. Things were tied at four apiece until, with 2:42 left on the clock, P. Henderson scored what was to prove to be the winning goal. Approximately two minutes later A. Junkin scored his second of the game to put things away for Courtice. Barrett's combination of J. Lemke and R. Drew combined for six points in their team's effort. D. Forrester for Courtice Courtice turned away 23 shots while M. Kerstens, on loan from the Beasties, blocked 20 for Barrett's. All players are reminded that there are no games next week, but they resume Saturday, December 29, as we have only seven games remaining remaining in the schedule. To all players, wives, sponsors, sponsors, and others, have a safe and happy holiday season. psSÜEeEW ' > ASSORTED FLAVORS RICH BLEND, E 'INSTANT COFFEE James Insurance i i* turn Eleanor Damanl, Gayle Windsor, Doug James, Nesta Akey 24 King St. East, Bowmanville 623-4406 BUSINESS DIRECTORY Accountancy Chiropractic WILLIAM C.
