Game time 8:30 p.m. AWARD -- Congratulations to Whitby's Golden Girl "Anne Ottenbrite" who has been awarded a membership in the Order of Canada, and a nomination nomination for the title of Canada's 1984 female athlete athlete of the year. Anne is a student at the University University of Southern California in sports psychology psychology and is a member of the USC swim team. ON TV -- Oshawa Generals will be involved in three of the Ontario Hockey League games of the week on Global television network in 1985, two in Oshawa and one from Toronto. Generals will play host to Cornwall Royals here on Jan. 26 in their first appearance before the cameras. The second game in Oshawa will be March 2 against North Bay Centennials. Generals and Toronto Marlboros will close out the regular season portion of the telecasts in Toronto, March 16. All games start at 2 p.m. This three-member rink won the Tuesday afternoon afternoon ladies' curling competition and received a trophy at a luncheon held last week at the Bow- manville Golf and Curling Club. Before Square Boys realized it, they were playing catch up hockey. Square Boys' first goal of the game was scored by Shane Crombie assisted by David Kichko. Within three minutes, Nichols scored twice to take the lead. With a minute left in the period' Square Boys' Greg Raby scored assisted by the (D.J.). The second period belonged belonged to Nichols as they controlled the play and scored two unanswered goals. Having a tough time in all aspects of the game, Square Boys just couldn't get back into the game. Refusing to give up, Square Boys kept plugging away. Early in the third period, they managed to tie the score with two goals scored by captain Kellet with Shane Crombie picking picking up the first assist and the Big on the second goal. The Square Boys' showed good improvement on December December 15 as they added a few new tactics to their game. The whole Square Boy squad worked hard for this game with everyone doing their part. Captain Kellet earned his stripes with the combination of winning faceoffs and scoring scoring two goals and adding two assists to his record. The captain's first assist occurred occurred after he won control of the face off deep in the Capri end, fed the puck back to his defenceman Brent Gibson who took a slapshot scoring the first goal. A minute later the Capri team scored with their consistent play. Square Boys stuck to their game plan by working as a team and Captain Kellet showed some fine stickhandling stickhandling and moves to score his first goal ending the period 2-1. Square Boys' goalie Paul Brooks played steadily throughout the game. One exciting moment in the second second period came when the Capri team nearly scored as Paul made the initial stop but lost control of the rebound. rebound. The game continued the end to end action action as another good passing passing play set up Square Boys' Shane Crombie as he scored the last goal assisted by Greg Raby and Jonathon Boyd. The Capri team came on strong again as they scored their second and last' goal of the game. That's the spirit, guys! Challenge. Fifteen luckey teams from across Canada will win an all expense paid weekend in Toronto with the Maple Leafs. The objective of the contest contest which is sponsored by the Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited is to raise money for the Canadian Paraplegic Association and the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf. These organizations organizations will split 50 per cent of the monies collected and the remainder of the proceeds proceeds is intended to remain with the participating teams. Checker's Variety Over Oshawa in 5-3 Victory On Saturday, Dec. 22, 1984, the Checkers pee wee squad hosted the pee wee team from Storie Park, Oshawa. The Checkers crew worked hard outskating their opposition enroule enroule to a 5 - 3 victory. Blue- liner Dustin Couch was instrumental in two first period scores. His defensive partner Steven Kay relayed a pass to his point. Forward Scott Latin then redirected his shot into the open side of the net. Minutes later centre Cory Chambers supplied the puck to Dustin's point. This time his drive found the mark without any assistance. Oshawa scored near the end of the first period to narrow the lead. In the second period, Kent Vanderheyden re-established the two goal lead. Playing centre, he took a face-off in his own end and scored on a solo rush up ice.
