NIAS CIMei, Port Hope Oldtimers By Bob Sheridan On Wednesday night in Port Hope Recreation Centre, we were defeated 10 - 9 by the Port Hope Oldtimers. Irv Gill opened the scoring by redirecting redirecting a pass from Ray Crombie in the opening seconds of play. Two goals by George Sainsbury made the score 3 - 0. Bob Sheridan then fed a perfect pass to Garry Etcher as he fired a shot past Art Hester in the Bowmanville goal to put Port Hope on the score board for the first time. This goal brought the Port Hope team to life and they then scored three times to lead the game. Irv Gill took a pass from Ray Preston and tied the score. Irv then set Bob Sheridan up for a go ahead goal. Port Hope rallied and scored six times in the third period. Our team fought back with goals by Bob Marjerri- son, Siegi Rohr, Grant Flintoff and Bob Sheridan with only forty seconds left. We pulled the goaitender but were unable unable to get the equalizer. On Friday evening in Bowmanville arena we defeated defeated Oshawa Stortec 8 - 5 led by the fine goaltending of Art Hester and excellent defensive defensive work of Ray Crombie, Warren Townsley and Jim Olinski. Bob Deblois took a pass from Grant Flintoff and opened the scoring with a rifle shot at the thirty second mark of the first period. George Sainsbury made the score 2 - 0 on a pass from Roger Shingier. Grant Flintoff then set up Hugh German and Hugh made no mistake with a blast to the lower right hand corner from twenty feet out. Bob Burke then scored three goals for Stortec and consternation consternation swept our bench as we feared a repeat of the Port Hope debacle. However, Hugh German stepped into the breach and scored two more clever goals to put us ahead forever. Grant Flintoff, George Sainsbury and Bob Deblois, with his second, all hit the twine to salt away the victory. Grant Flintoff put in a stellar performance performance with a goal and three assists. Newton ville Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wood and Scott of Newcastle visited with Mr. and Mrs. Reid Wood Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott visited Miss Catherine Stewart, a patient at Oshawa hospital on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Farrow visited with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sinclair of Starkville. Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Boughen were dinner guests on Sunday with Mrs. E. Gordon of Orono. Miss Kim Gilmer of Toronto and Mr. Marvin Stapleton of Waterloo were home for the weekend with their parents. Mrs. Erma Wood was hostess for a "Tops and Trends" party at her home on Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Staple- ton visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henderson on Saturday evening. Some from the village attended the Euchre Progressive Progressive Party at Kendal on Friday evening. This Friday evening at Newtonville for their card party. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hughes of Port Hope were dinner guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. . Jack Elliott. Mrs. Maude Coulter who has been spending a few days with Mrs. W. Milligan and Berneice returned home to Minden on Wednesday. Newtonville - Starkville Bowling 50 - 50 Draw - Bernice Henderson.
