6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 23,1985 Section Two Church Women Hold Annual Workshop "One Life to Live" was the theme of the annual United Church Women's workshop which is designed to acquaint officers and portfolio convenors with their roles in the local U.C.W. unit, held at Kingsview United Church on January 8, 1985. The theme was developed by Mary Gilchrist, Trenton, Ontario, Conference Leadership Development Chairman, through her leadership of the devotional which was based on the Beatitudes, and through Bible study, both exercises being individually implemented by all participants. Scripture was read by Euna Killens, Hampton, Marion Larmer and Anita Davis, Blackstock. "Thank You, 0 Lord, for the Time that is Now" was the theme hymn. Welcome was warmly expressed by Executive President Pat Beach, Kingsview U.C.W. President Leona Wanamaker and by Rev. Audrey Fisher on behalf of Kingsview United Church and the Board. EXECUTIVE CONVENORS DESCRIBE RESOURCES United Church Women Pres- byterial Executive members shared information in cluster groups of committee members, many of whom are newly-elected in their local units. "Stewardship is what I do after I say I believe," quoted Evelyn Redpath, Stewardship Convenor, in her brief capsulization of World Relief and down home Stewardship. Anita Davis, Blackstock, Social Issues Convenor, presented'the whole spectrum of social issues with the aid of an excellent visual display, commenting that "faith and .social action go hand in hand." Some of the issues being studied at present are: Poronography, Woman and Child Abuse, Peace and Disarmament, Abortion. The cast of a skit, arranged by Jacqueline Guthrie, second vice-president, personally introduced each executive member and confirmed the area of responsibility of each. Correct, long-lasting procedures for archivists is available from Bessie Vaneyk. Margaret Ann Lamb, Manchester U.C.W., first vice- president and World Outreach Convenor, informed the gathering that South African Christians are asking us to use the power of boycott. Mrs. Lamb showed the film "Even Though we are not Blossoming Now, it is Alright," which is an excellent resource aid to begin to understand the people of South Korea. EXCHANGE VISIT TO KOREA Shelley Wright, Harmony United Church, was introduced as the local exchange person to Korea in May, 1985, completing the 1984 celebration of 100 years of Protestant Mission in Korea, following the pleasant visit of Mrs. Choo Chai Sook and Rev. Annual Meeting at Kingsview United Church, Oshawa, on March 19, 1985, with guest speaker Lois McLeod, Youth Work Developer; Conference U.C.W. Annual Meeting April 2nd and 3rd at Perth, Ontario. The well attended workshop concluded with a sensitive hymn, "The Promise of Power," tune of "Climb Every Mountain," accompanied at the piano by the hymn's author Betty Turcott, Bowmanville. He told of a cripple who was lowered from the ceiling so that he would be near Jesus. Jesus told him to get up and walk if he had that much faith that his friends would go to so much bother.
