LETTER TO THE EDITOR Orono, Ontario, Jan. 25,1985. Mr. John James, Editor, Canadian Statesman, Dear Sir: May I make a correction to the historical sketch in the Statesman of January 23rd titled, "They came from Cornwall to Solina" by Sheila Jsmcs She states, "The Elfords emigrated in 1846, following a sister Dorothy and her husband William Souch. They settled in 1834 and were among the earliest Cornish settlers in Solina..." The Elford and Souch families arrived about the same time with the possibility of the Elfords being a year earlier. The arrival of the Souch family in 1832 is well documented. They left Plymouth Plymouth on a vessel named the Prime - William Souch senior, wife Emelyn and family, among whom was the eldest child William aged about thirteen years. It was this William who married Dorothy Elford in 1840, These facts can be corroborated corroborated by my research and the extensive research of a Souch descendant, Mrs. Jean Anderson of Bellingham, Washington.
