< ( i 10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, February 6,1985 \ , . ! y-.'.v *< Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Well! The groundhog saw his shadow on February 2nd - so folks - they say we're in for another six weeks of winter. You may be sure there's lots of the white stuff in store for us yet. But- we have so much to be thankful for, snow on the ground protects the seeds and trees, and we do have the equipment to remove the snow from the roads. Nestleton United Church A fair attendânce on a cold, bright Sunday morning morning at Nestleton United. Sam and Mable Cawker were greeters at the door and were pleased to greet some newcomers and welcome them - Glenna MacLeod and children Dayna and Jada from Nestleton village. We trust they enjoyed the service and will get into the habit of coming. With Student .Minister Elaine Barber assisting Rev. Dale Davis, preached preached a warm and thought provoking sermon entitled, entitled, "Blessed Are The Meek." The Sunday School youngsters loved their story before retiring retiring to classes. A trio sang a very nice number with Gwèndolyn Malcolm at the organ. Just a word- those who don't attend church really really miss a great deal- whatever church it may be- there is always something to take home- a thought from the sermon- the refrain of a hymn- a word of greeting from the minister or members of the congregation- the echo of a Prayer- it is always something which lights the way Home and stays with you all week long. Caesarea Community Church The friendly little Caesarea Church didn't have as good a congregation congregation as usual due to the bitter cold. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Heayn were ill- they have been assisting. Daniel Pugh read the Scripture and Rev. W.H. Crawford had a fine message entitled "Is God Willing To Answer Prayer" from Mark 1: 40. He also played for the hymns. Do you suppose someone who likes to play the organ or piano could help at Caesarea? A beautiful Hammond organ and easy to play. If you can play or know of someone who would help, give the minster a call 986-5526. Caesarea Euchre Results A very successful party party with a good attendance. attendance. Winners were: First prize- Gayle Pelrine with the excellent excellent score of 92. Second Second prize- James Emer- ton with 85. Third- Charlene Rogers- 40. Lunch and a social time was enjoyed. Next Wednesday evening as usual for a bit of fun and perhaps a prize. Socializing Gloria and Ian Scott, Charles and Jennifer of Corbyville, visited with Ralph and Leona Sadler, Richard and Janice MacKenzie, Claire and Leslie on Sunday- a birthday birthday celebration for Ralph. Our best wishes for many more! Grahame and Neta Fish of Nestleton, had supper with Calvin and Yvonne Holland on Saturday evening. They had a great visit with grandchildren Chad and Craig and the new baby Alanna Dawn is a real doll- doing well. On Sunday, Sunday, Jim and Audrey Leishman, Jamie and William of Reaboro, went skiing during the afternoon and were supper supper guests with Grahame and Neta Fish, On Saturday evening, the Sam Cawkers of Scugog Pt. Road, were very pleased to have Wilfred and Jeanette Alexander of Oshawa drop in for a visit- an evening of reminiscing and catching up on the latest family news. What a treat! Lots of excitement at the Cawker farm during , the week. The Cawker boys- Grant, Chris, Curtis Curtis and friend Jamie Kidd were assisting at the estate- snowmobiling for relaxation- all in all a lot of fun for everyone! And afternoon tea guests on Sunday were Alan and Eleanor Cawker also of Oshawa. How nice to see them looking so fit! Get Well Warmest wishes for good health to the following following friends- Ella Bowers, Nestleton at present in Port Perry Hospital. Mrs. W.H. Crawford of Caesarea- and pleased to hear that Doreen Rush has returned from Hospital. Birthday Party A family gathering and birthday celebration was hosted by Arnold and Jean Williams on Sunday with about a dozen present present in all. The celebrants were son Neil and Diane- Dale's girlfriend. Very best wishes to these celebrating! Notices The Nestleton Hall Board will meet Wednesday, Wednesday, February 13, for the Election of Officers. A good attendance is hoped for! Try to be on hand - this is your Community Hall- let us support it- 8 p.m. Do you like to dance? Do you like to socialize? Live it up? Get rid of the winter blahs? If so- join in the fun at the Benefit Dance next Saturday night at the Nestleton Community Centre in aid of the John Arbuckle family. They have had more than their share of trouble, problems and so forth, etc. For tickets see Coming Events in the Port Perry Star. Keep in mind the next Blue Ray-> Chapter meeting to be held Thursday, February 14th at the Masonic Temple. Hopefully- this is a Valentine Party. Members try to be there for a little fun and relaxation! Wesley ville Sunday, February 3rd was a real good winter day, cold, sunny and beautiful to look at with the country robed in pure white. Service at Welcome United Church was conducted by Rev. G. Rutherford, but next Sunday, February 10th, in his absence, Rev. Mel Buttars will take charge of the service here. The music was in charge of the junior choir and they sang as their anthem "Praise the Lord." Rev. Rutherford's message was titled "Profile of a true conversion", and dealt with the story of Zacchacus. His is one of the familiar episodes of the New Testament. Testament. The youth group met at Welcome on Sunday night, the 3rd, and on February 14th there will be a pot luck supper at the church, On the following Sunday there will be a special service there to honour the Cubs, Beavers, Girl Guides and Scouts. Mrs. Orald Ford has not returned from Erin where she is staying with daughter Gwen until her strength has fully returned following surgery but she is doing well. So are two others of our folk who have been in hospital. Alberta Anderson is improving every day and Hazel Tufford at home is back to her cheerful self again. Garfield Payne of Toronto s tient the weekend at home. His brother Lance of Ottawa reports a goixl holiday of two weeks spent in Mexico. There is great use made of the abundant snow by snow- mobilers and skiers. Their pleasure brings back happy memories for those whose arthritic joints no longer permit these aetivities. Albert Woodruff and .John Tufford look part, again, on Sunday, February 3rd in the Rotary Club's annual snowmobile event. Prices effective thru Sat., Febr uary 9th, 1995.
