Coach/Instructor Gord Maxwell says that the only other prerequisite is "willingness "willingness to put in an effort." While a number of the people involved are training training for Masters' competitions competitions held around Ontario, Coach Maxwell stresses that there is not a lot of emphasis emphasis on speed in his program. program. The regular hour-long sessions start on February 18th and will run on Monday and Wednesday evenings for 15 weeks. Participants have a choice of attending once or twice a week. Most Masters clubs would do more. Many have at least three workouts a week and Mr. Maxwell would like to see the program in Newcastle Newcastle expanded to ten months. "Masters' swimming is the only type of competition we get any interest in," he said, but added he "would like to see a competitive program with kids" developed at the Fitness Centre. Coach Maxwell is happy to work with swimmers at all skill levels. During the sessions the pool is divided and he spends time with all the participants. Swimming is a wonderful way to get fit and stay fit. It is recognized as great car- ' dio-vascular exercise, and as February is Heart Month it's a good time to think about beginning an exercise exercise program.
