Our first opponents were a team from Glen Stewart Park in Oshawa. Our boys started with the expected jitters but the solid goaltending of Mark McCarthy helped us in the game. Suddenly the Bears came to life and Paul Luvaller pumped in four straight goals with assists going to Robbie Jeffers, Daryl Cook and Darcy MacKinnon. This seemed to really get the team going and on a tricky , pass play Danny Rowe scored with assists going to Derek Lang and Brad Sutherland. Town and Country Les Hunt 45, A1 Bentley 37, Alan Tibbies 29, Bob Brown 29, Terry Luke 25, Mike Powers 24, Steve Sanderson 18, Nelda Dawson 16. Ladies' High Triple - Ev Cole 634. Men's High Triple - Steve Zealand 683. Ladies' High Single - Ev Cole 242. Men's High Single - Steve Zealand 260. This line really played well as two shifts later Brent Donahue stuffed in a rebound with assists going to Danny Rowe and Robbie McCheyne. An excellent effort from all the boys in this game and Bowmanville won 6 - 2. In game two the Kinsmen Bears took on another Oshawa team, this one from Cedar Ridge Park. The Bears again put up a determined effort but ended up losing this game as Oshawa's experience of playing playing in a league all year proved too much for the boys to handle. Paul Luvaller scored his fifth goal of the tournament on a nice pass from Daryl Cook. The Kinsmen Bears' second goal was scored by Danny Rowe assisted by Derek Lang and Robbie McCheyne. Again Mark McCarthy played well in the net and this time it earned him a trophy as our team's most valuable player of the game. Game number three was the consolation championship game and again our opponents were the Glen Stewart Park team. This time the Park team came to play and their experience from playing as a team in a league was starting to show. But our boys were not to be denied. Their determination and good skating proved too much for Oshawa to handle. Paul Luvaller struck first for our side with an assist going to Robbie Jeffers. Danny Rowe netted his third of the tourney assisted by Brent Donahue. The Bears' third goal was scored on a breakaway by Paul Luvaller. Robbie Jeffers cruising in front of the net stuffed in a rebound from a Paul Luvaller shot on goalr Paul got his eighth goal and second hat trick on a fine shot to the corner of the goal. The Bears' final goal of their short lived season was scored by Danny Rowe, his fourth of the tourney and a well deser ved assist to linemate Brent Donahue. Paul's outstanding effort in this game earned him the M.V.P. trophy. This tournament was a great adventure for the boys and hopefully it will become an annual event. The whole team should be proud of the effort they put out. A full team list is: Brad Sutherland, Derek Hall, Derek and Jason Lang, Robbie McCheyne, Danny Rowe, Paul Luvaller, Colin MacDonald, Matt Brake, Robbie Jeffers, Scott Gilmore, Nick Defreitas, Darcy MacKinnon, Brent Donahue, Mark McCarthy and Daryl Cook. The team's coaches were Sien MacDonald, Steve Sutherland, Steve Hall, and Ted White. Also many thanks to the McCarthy family for bringing the mascot bear and superman Jamie for the team's moral support. F or Fine Dining...
