The setting for the event was the Gate Restaurant in Port Perry. Family members present for this special celebration were: Husband Husband George, Arnold and Jean Williams, Nestleton; Nestleton; Helen Vine, Blackstock; Constable Jerry Bowers, Peterborough; Peterborough; Ralph and Cecile Bowers, Craig, Todd and Tracy of Tyrone; Bert Bowers, Oshawa (wife Marilyn was unable to attend), Dorothy Carson, New Liskeard; Earl Bowers, Nestleton and Carol Eb- bett of Port Perry. Jean made a beautiful birthday birthday cake for the occasion. occasion. After the delicious meal, all returned to the Bowers home in Nestleton Nestleton for a visit. World Day of Prayer Service An excellent service was held at Nestleton Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 1st, 2:30 p.m. for the World Day of Prayer Service. The President of the Ladies' Aid, Dorothy Lee, was the capable chairperson and extended a cordial welcome to the many folks attending, both men and women. She introduced introduced the guest speaker Rev. Fred Swann of Oshawa, who was bom in Ireland -- coming to Canada in 1948. After attending High School in Eastern Ontario, he later graduated from the University of Toronto -- and continued theological Studies at Knox College. He and wife Margaret have a family of four, three are married and daughter Susan is attending Bible College. Rev. Swann is presently teaching Special Education classes in Bowmanville High School and conducting conducting Church services at Nestleton Presbyterian and Ballyduff Churches. The speaker presented meaningful thoughts on the theme "Peace Through Prayer and Action" Action" emphasizing the importance of our concern concern for Peace and Action Action in a very confused, oppressed world. Let us' have acceptance, respect and love so that together as a world family, we may be actively involved in establishing Peace in our time. The five churches in Cartwright had a part in the service. At the close, candles were lit by a leader from each church- Nestleton Presbyterian- Bertha McLaughlin; Nestleton United- Gwen Malcolm; Blackstock Anglican- Elaine Bailey; Blackstock United- Eileen McLaughlin; , Caesarea Community- Rev. W.H. Crawford. The offering amounted to $89.00. Organist for the service- Mrs. Shirley Scott. The service was prepared by the Women of India. Greeters at the door- Flora Shaw and Mamie Magill. Fellowship Fellowship was enjoyed after the service in the Sunday School room downstairs with Rev. Fred. Swann giving the Grace. We do thank the Ladies of the Presbyterian Church for their warm hospitality. Caesarea Card Game At the Wednesday evening euchre held at the Caesarea Centre the following scores were reported: First prize winner- Frieda Wingrove with a score of 81. A three-way tie for second place- Karen Bedford and Glcnna Dean and Kay Brown each had 73. Third prize- Terry McQuade 60. Caesarea Community Church The Caesarea Community Community Church had a fine company of folks on Sunday, Sunday, March 3, 11 a.m., and Rev. W.H. Crawford D.D. continued with the theme-Acts 1:1. Family News Neta Fish returned home on Saturday afternoon afternoon after a two week visit with her daughter Audrey and Jim Leishman and family at Reaboro. Son Calvin and Yvonne Holland and family of Bowmanville were Saturday guests- and on Sunday, Bruce and Elaine Fish and family were supper guests. Sam and Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point 'Road, had a delightful visit and dinner with Grant, Merna, Chris, Curtis and Cathy Cawker of Oshawa this past week. Visiting at the farm were the avid fishermen John Sharpe, Gary Nottingham and Grant Cawker of Oshawa. Not too much luck -- the wary fish escaped! Curtis Cawker and friend Rob Smith and Chris Cawker were recent visitors. Good to see the boys back fishing and on the ski-doo trail now and then. Causes a little excitement around the old farm home! Get Well David Vivian of Nestleton is presently in Sunnybrook Hospital and is very ill. He is facing an operation and will be taken to London, Ontario, Ontario, for the surgery. Our best wishes for better better health soon from the Nestleton Village folks I Best wishes also to Doreen Rush who will be spending some time in a Toronto Hospital. She expects expects to be home weekends. Doreen has major back problems and we trust she'll be as "right as rain" after this sojourn in hospital. All the best from her many friends.
