Seals through your contributions to the 1985 Easter Seal Campaign, Sincerely yours, F. Howard Keasl President BY REV. W. WHITMAN LIBERTY PENTECOSTAL CHURCH From whence has come this present tidal wave of smut and "porn", to the counters and shelves of the almost countless countless numbers of our convenience, convenience, food, and drug stores, anyway? Well, first of all - our governmental governmental legislature bodies have shied away from taking any hard stand on this subject by not making a clear statement statement of what pornography is by definition. The problem seems to be that these individuals individuals are not willing to accept the simple definition that pornography is "any material designed to entice and arouse sexual appetites in an illicit manner." Even though secular humanism sets the stage, today's sexual revolution has been heightened and promoted promoted mainly through pornography, pornography, beginning with Hugh Hefner's "Playboy" and soon degenerating to other slick publications such as Penthouse, Penthouse, Oui and Hustler. By 1966, the U.S. supreme court further assaulted accepted standards of morality by declaring declaring that only material "utterly without redeeming social value" would be judged as pornography. Further in 1973, they declared that to be pornographic an item must be "without literary, artistic, political or scientific value." This kind of ruling is what has helped to open the flood gates of pornography on society. The growth of this sordid sex industry is the result of two basic factors -1. aspiring smut peddlers, greedy for wealth, feed off the lust of a generation bombarded by everything designed to provoke provoke sexual interest. 2. - our courts, supposedly the guardians of justice and morality have made the whole thing immoral, such as the loosening of our divorce laws, while suppressing everything that is godly, decent and honourable - like declaring the Lord's Day Act unconstitutional, unconstitutional, or a violation of the Charter of Rights. Just in passing, let me make this comment on the new Charter of Rights: once many Canadians wake up lo what this document really does to our rights as individual citizens, we'll have come to Pornography - Part 2 the conclusion that it has become a noose aroûnd our necks and has removed many of our freedoms from us. Other promoters of "porn" are very obvious to us. Tele-' vision and movies spewing out profanities and filth have become acceptable and commonplace in many Canadian homes. Advertising agencies are resorting to more and more pornography to sell their products - everything from cars to jeans to perfume, to tobacco and liquor. Now, a "Gentleman's" magazine shows a nude six-year-old girl in a shirt advertisement. Public school and sex education are promoters of pornography as well. If the average parent would take the time to read some of the material supplied by our schools, they would be shocked shocked by it. In regard to sex education, liberal educators have determined that it is the school system's responsibility and not the parent's to explain sex to youngsters. Their premise is that being an educated student would help to prevent some of the sexual promiscuity of our younger generation, but as was shown in the last article - this has backfired and caused even greater promiscuity. Well, let me just finish this article by stating what might help to cure this spreading cancer of pornography. Firstly, we need public officials along with the leaders of our churches, who will have strong moral character and not be afraid to stand upon moral principles based on the word of God - the Bible. You cannot have strong moral convictions without a holy fear of God.'The bible repeatedly states: "Righteousness exalteth a nation but sin is a reproach to any people" that "when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." (Proverbs 14:34) Proverbs 29:2). Secondly, Canada as a nation must come back to God. We can allow the secular humanists to continue to lead our educational system down the broad road to destruction OR we can say, NO. This is a Christian nation, with a reverent and holy acknowledgement acknowledgement of God as creator, sustainor and guide. We will follow him. It's the only hope our nation has if we are to acquire greatness again, and if we are to rescue our youth from the clutches of Hell. TELEPHONE 623-6555 JOHN MANUEL, C.G.A.
