The new Visitors Centre Centre detracts from the pioneer look of the village, but once inside the theatre there, beautiful beautiful photography in the film, takes one back to the early days when Daniel Stong, a Pennsylvania German settler built five log buildings still standing in the village. Many activities-spinning, weaving, rug-making, flour milling at Roblin's Mill, blacksmilhing, printing, broom-making, may be seen. The Kerosene Era, over 1000 lamps from the Thu- ro collection, is a special attraction attraction at the village from May 9 to Aug. 13, and worth seeing. The programme had a wide appeal. The children from the Pines Senior Public School presented the original play by Charles Ewert and Ray Noble, The Harbour. Regional Executive Director of Community Care Paul Tuttle welcomed welcomed the 25 to 30 people who attended. They also heard reports from the various committees. The 1985 executive is as follows: Gail Rickard, Past Chairman; Joan Russell, Chairman; Jane Crane, Vice-chairman; Sally Barrie, Secretary; Treasurer, Norm McConaghy; Joyce Gunn, Member at Large; and Thelma Gilbank, Regional Representative. 1187 and the second prize, a Sunday Brunch for two at the Port Darlington Marina was won by Nola Bridger, of Orono, with ticket number 0097. Such a day's programme, reviewing the past and studying studying local roots, proved both enjoyable and informative. Richard Lovekin, of St. George's and Mr. Charles Hester of St. Saviour's, with Rev. Allan E, Haldenby, attended attended the Synod of the Anglican Anglican Diocese of Toronto, where the Rev. Taylor Price of St. Leonard's Church, Toronto, was elected Suffragan Bishop to fill the place of the Rt. Rev. Parke-Taylor, who retires the end of June. The ACW of St. George's Anglican Church held a Pot Luck Supper Wednesday evening evening ending their activities, for a summer recess. Goodyear Retirees Meet The Goodyear Retirees' Club at their regular meeting on June 3rd, 1985, were pleased to welcome the following members of the Goodyear organization : Clarke Moon, Stan Hollingsworth, Hugh Laing, Charlie Trim and George DeMille. The reason for the visit was this being the 75th anniversary of the Bowmanville Goodyear Plant, Clarke Moon was presenting a film on a European trip of the Goodyear Blimp that is stationed in Europe. This was both interesting and well received by the eighty one members present, out of a United Church On Father's Day, Sunday, June 16, 1985 at Newcastle United Church, Rev. Donald Stiles baptized Nathan Adam Wright, son of Mary and Jamie Jamie Wright, Newcastle. The sermon, Abba Father, was very meaningful. Tickets are available for the Sunday, June 23rd Barbecue and Strawberry Supper. Newcastle will host the July Summer Services with Orono and Kirby congregations at 10:30 a.m. membership of one hundred and one. Stan Hollingsworth also gave a short talk on the activities at the local plant, of changes and new products. Charlie Trim brought greetings from Goodyear, and spoke of the happenings during the year 1985, some of which will be open for the retirees to attend. George DeMille thanked the retirees for the invitation and wished them all the best from Local 189. Hugh Laing looked after presenting the film. This part of the program being over, and having acquired a considerable amount of chicken and cole slaw from Col. Sanders emporium, everyone dug in and concluded what had proved to be a very satisfactory meeting. Norman Allison and Walton Pascoe expressed the sincere thanks of all present to the members from Goodyear who had taken the time to be with us on this special occasion.
