There are 18 Councils Councils or Commissions to which we have named 255 Canadians who are, in effect, "dollar a year" people. They receive no stipend, honorarium, salary or per diem payment. These bodies include the Science: Council, Standards Council, Harbors Commissions, Research Research and Medical Research Council, the Economic Council, the Battlefields Commission, Commission, the Army Benevolent Fund and the Queen Elizabeth Research Foundation - to I make no apology for the fact that some supporters of my Party have been appointed to Order-in-Council positions. These are people of accomplishment accomplishment in the private sector whose competence and qualifications qualifications are widely acknowledged acknowledged and whose presence on boards and administrative tribunals tribunals will ensure that our mandate for change is carried out, I have been a Member of Parliament for 28 years. I can say without the slightest fear of contradiction that NO government government has made more nonpartisan nonpartisan and non-government Party member appointments than this one. In fact, I would be willing to wager that Mr. Mulroney has, in eight months, appointed more active partisans from other parties to high positions than any other Prime Minister did during his entire mandate. I suggest he acquaint himself with the true facts rather than the half- truths and distortions he is trying to foist off on the press and the public. Volunteer of the Year An Oshawa physician has been selected as Volunteer of the Year by the Durham District Health Council. Dr. Chris Hall, a general practitioner at the Glazier Medical Centre, was chosen from 15 nominees and was honored at the annual meeting of the Health Council Council in Oshawa last Friday, June 21. Dr. Hall has given numerous numerous volunteer hours to local health-related organizations organizations during the past few years. Some of these include include Mental Health Durham, Adhod Services, and the Substance Abuse Committee of the District Health Council. His other volunteer activities include Project Auberge, Durham Region Child Abuse Committee, Committee, and a number of committees of the Oshawa General Hospital.
