Bowmanville, August 28. 1985 Good Crowd Enjoys Annual Branch 178 Legion Picnic Recently, a family picnic was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice O'Neill. Guests were present from Beechburg, Belleville, Port Hope, Port Perry, Stouffville and Uxbridge. Last Friday Mrs. Margaret Wade of Kendal and Mrs. Mary Wade of Barrie were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henderson. Forty-six passengers enjoyed enjoyed the bus trip to Cullen Barn's Toronto on Wednesday sponsored by the Women's Institute. The dinner was at the Town and Country then some shopping at the Mark- ville Plaza, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott spent a few days at Bala at her brother's cottage, Mr. and Mrs. Wray Soules. Mrs. Lena Clysdale was a luncheon .guest on Sunday with Mrs. Hazel Stapleton of Orono. Mrs. Irene Burley of Bowmanville was also a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Reid Wood were guests at the Tapscott - Freeburn wedding on Saturday Saturday held at Bethseda United' Church, Cobourg with reception reception afterwards at the Durham Memorial Temple at Dale. Mrs. Louise Jose, Mrs. Roy Branch and Mrs. Mary Brown of Newcastle Newcastle also attended church here. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Farrow of Ottawa are spending spending a few days with Mr. Reg Falls. Congratulations to Miss Jill English and Mr. Manfred Schoenerklee who were married on Saturday at Trinity United Church, Bowmanville. The ladies and two gentlemen of Newtonville catered to their wedding supper held at Newcastle Community Hall. He also assisted the choir with the anthem entitled Higher Ground. On Sunday, September 8th, a church picnic sponsored by the Sunday School beginning at three o'clock will be held followed by a pot-luck supper as a congregational event for all. Ontario Expands Carpool Parking Ontario Minister of Transportation Transportation and Communications Communications Ed Fulton said today three new carpool parking lots will be opened and four existing existing lots expanded this year, bringing the number of available available parking spaces from 2,268 to 2,611 on a total of 42 lots. "Carpool parking lots contribute contribute commuter safety, energy conservation and decreased road congestion," said Fulton. "Before the lots were built, commuters who met to car- pool parked on highway shoulders and along ramps at interchanges," he added. "The presence of these lots has eliminated a potentially dangerous situation." A recent survey of the existing existing lots indicates an occupancy occupancy rate of 61 percent. Based on this data, ridesharing ridesharing from such lots saves Ontario 4.6 million litres of gasoline^ annually and decreases decreases vehicle kilometers by 31 million.
