i i ) Class of1925 Holds Reunion These ladies who originally met as students in the 1925 class at Bowman- ville High School have been holding five-year reunions since 1965. Last Wednesday, they met again at the home of Evelyn Jamieson, ofBowmanville, following a lunch. In the front row, from left, aré: Novelda Allin, Evelyn Jamieson, Greta Symons, and Greta Brown. In the back row are, from left: Beatrice Boddy, Nellie Dilling, Marie Wallace, and Vera Staples. In September, 1925, sixteen sixteen girls started classes at Bowmanville High School on Queen St. in Form 1A (Grade 9). That was 60 years ago, so on Wednesday, September 11, there was a reunion of those who were able to meet at noon for lunch followed by an afternoon of reminiscing reminiscing and tea at the home of Evelyn Jamieson who has planned a get-together every five years since 1965. Staff at the Bowmanville High School in 1925 in cluded Principal W.J. Morrison, Morrison, and teachers Miss Isabel K. Smith, Miss Agnes Brown, Miss Muriel Sissons, Miss MacDonald, M r ' Bruce Ingham, and Mr. A.R. Scott. In the second year of high school, the class was shocked by the untimely death of Blanch Morris. Since their first reunion in 1965, the group has lost through death their teacher, teacher, Mrs. L.T. McLaughlin (nee Miss I.K. Smith) and five classmates. Another member of the class is now confined to a nursing home. Due to poor health, Mrs. B.C. Diltz (nee Miss A. Brown), Toronto, was unable unable to attend this year's reunion as well as Miss M. Sissons, the former teacher. Wilhelmine (Rember) Row- den, of Port Hope, was also absent. Those who enjoyed the get-together last Wednesday, Wednesday, September 11, were: Vera (Trimble) Staples, Orono; Marie (Valleau) Wallace, Oshawa; Beatrice (Cryderman) Boddy, Hampton; Novelda (Berry) Allin, R.R. 4 Bowmanville; Nellie (Kirkton) Dilling; Greta Symons, Greta (Mun- day) Brown and Evelyn (Bickle) Jamieson, all of Bowmanville. The group adds that it will, God willing, meet again for another five-year reunion in 1990. Professional Musicians Play at Newcastle Hall Plans are now completed for the 1985-86 Newcastle and District District Concert Series, to take place in the Newcastle Community Community Hall on Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. These concerts are promoted by Jeunesses Musicales - Youth and Music - which fosters the careers of emerging Canadian musicians (which in the past have included Maureen Forrester Forrester and the Orford String Quartet). The Ontario Arts Council have recognized the importance of this series to the Newcastle area and have generously come forward with a grant to cover half the cost, enabling us to offer the tickets at such a reasonable price. The four concerts are as follows: The Devonian Duo (flute and piano) - Oct. 20th, Oriana Singers - Nov. 24th, Chalumeau Ensemble - Feb. 9th, Percussionsticks - April' 6th. The Devonian Duo, composed composed of Susan Hoeppner, Alberta, flute, and Robert Kortgaard, piano, made their debut in New York at Town Hall, and Robert has been soloist with the Toronto Symphony Symphony and Hamilton Philharmonic. Philharmonic. ihe Oriana Singers, a choral group who are internationally!', internationally!', acclaimed, are based in Cobouvg under the director Beryl Maguire, and include Newcastle singers. They will be presenting a popular programme, and need no introduction here. The Chalumeau Ensemble consists of a recording string quartet plus clarinet, composed composed of professional artists from Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick, who have performed individually with major orchestras. The Percussionists will bring the series to a rousing finish, a quartet that play popular arrangements of both classical and jazz repertoire. The Massey family's original hopes were for such concerts to be held in the hall they donated to the village - they would be pleased!
