BEGGS Hospitalized four years, Percy W. Beggs, aged 64, passed away in Oshawa Hospital Hospital on Saturday, August 31st, 1985. Born and educated in Ponty- pool, he was the son of Hector and Mina (Rusk) Beggs. He was married May 26, 1945, to Kay Hamilton. A resident of Pontypool for 40 years, he was a farmer, and had also been employed at General Motors for 25 years, retiring in 1975 due to ill health. He was a member of Pontypool United Church. Surviving are his wife Kay, daughters Dianne (Mrs. Ralph Porter) of Bethany, Barbara (Mrs. Robert Porter) of Oshawa, and a son James Beggs of Port Elgin. The Reverend Bill Tadeja (Oshawa Hospital) conducted the funeral services on Tuesday, Tuesday, at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville. Pallbearers were Messrs. Herb Craig, Ray Heeringa, Murray Ferguson, George Cowling, Ken Lamb and George Hamilton. Many donations to the Arthritis Society were received received in his memory. Interment Pontypool Cemetery. MARY ELIZABETH GRAY Suddenly as the result of a fatal car accident, Mary Elizabeth Gray, aged 46, passed away in Lindsay, on Sunday, August 18th, 1985. Born in Port Hope and educated in Bowmanville, she was the daughter of Mrs. Ethen Jones (Hazel) and the late Mr. Jones. She was married July 15th, 1967, to William Wesley Gray. A resident of Bowmanville, at 90 Duke Street for 18 years, she had been employed as a secretary at Dixon Fuels. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 178. Left to mourn her passing are her husband William (Bill), son Dale, twin daughters daughters Heather and Tammie, two brothers, Kelvin and Allan Jones. Funeral services were held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanville, with the Reverend Arthur Amacher officiating. Pallbearers were Messrs, John Gibson Sr., John Gibson Jr., Garnet Gibson, Gary Hal- lowell, Jack Bond and Gil Parenteau. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. DALE WALLACE GRIFFIN On August 1, 1985, at Fairmont Fairmont Hot Springs B.C., a tragic tragic helicopter accident claimed the life of pilot Dale Wallace Griffin of Powell River, B.C. Born at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, Nov. 3, 1953, Dale was the only son of Wm. Wallace and Velma (Colla- cutt) Griffin. He received his elementary education at Enniskillen Public School and M.J. Hobbs Senior Public. In October 1971 he graduated from Courtice Secondary School and in June 1974 from a three year engineering engineering programme in Air Transport Technology from Durham College, Oshawa. During this time, Dale, as a young boy, spent his summers at "Slemon's General Store," in his home village and later at General Motors of Canada. Following graduation, he was employed at Lasco Steel, Whitby, and Trans Canada Pipe Line, Toronto. In pursuit of his life's dream to become a helicopter pilot, Dale received his licence in 1976 after training with Great Lakes Helicopters, Toronto and travelled "West" to fulfill his ambitions. On January 8, 1983, Dale was married to Vickie Ann Gall of Vancouver and they made their home at Maple Ridge, B.C. He loved his career and at the time of his death was base pilot at Powell River, for Rotortech Helicopters Ltd. of Delta. He also enjoyed skiing, golfing and travelling, his latest endeavor being scuba diving. Dale created friends wherever wherever he went and will be sadly missed by his wife Vickie, parents Wally and Velma, sister Heather, brother-in-law Dominic Gorgerat, nephews Tyson and Justin and Grandma Grandma Lee Griffin. A Memorial Service was held Aug. 8th at South Burnaby Burnaby United Church, B.C. Rev. Russell Bcairsto officiated officiated and fellow pilot Trevor Moore of Kamloops delivered the eulogy. Dale rested at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bow- mnnvillc. Rev. Besides the beautiful floral tokens, many donations were made in his memory to Memorial Hospital and various other charities, Cremation, DOROTHY GLADYS BUTTONSHAW 111 for two weeks, Dorothy Gladys Buttonshaw, aged 85, passed away at Marnwood Nursing Home, Bowmanville, on Monday, September 2nd, 1985. Born and educated at Winchelsea, England, she was the daughter of Lewis and Susan Streeton. She was married to John E. Button- shaW'an March 9th, 1920. A resident of Bowmanville for 62 years, she had previously previously resided in Welland and Toronto. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church. Left to mourn her passing are her family, Dorothy Con- naghan, Joan Wilson, Florence Florence Wilson, Joyce Lyle and John, Buttonshaw, 18 grandchildren grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. grandchildren. LIONEL JOSEPH MCDONALD Born and educated at Douglastown, Gaspe Bay, Quebec, Lionel Joseph McDonald passed away suddenly in Bowmanville, on Monday, August 26th, 1985, in his 75th year. Son of Michael McDonald and Edith Kennedy, he was married on May 17th, 1931, to Esther Mary Rooney. A resident for 27 years in Oshawa, he had resided for two years in Bowmanville, previously residing in Douglastown. Douglastown. He had been employed for 20 years at Houdaillë Industry, retiring nine years ago. He had been a member of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church for 27 years and of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church for two years. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Esther, a son Ivan, a daughter Ruby, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a brother, three sisters, a daughter-in-law Sharon and son-in-law Tom. The Reverend Father McCarty officiated at tin funeral services held on Thursday at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. ; Pallbearers were Messrs Fred, Terry, Randy and David McDonald, Danny Delany and Cleaven Le Meaux. Specialist, (Agriculture) LOTS OF 4-H ACTIVITY AT ORONO FAIR Bob Goble of Janetville was this year's winner of the Durham East 4-H Champion Livestock Showmanship Competition. Competitors showed four types of livestock - Dairy, Beef, Sheep and Swine. Reserve Champion was Brent McLaughlin, Nes- tleton and Glenn Barkey, Blackstock was third. At the Durham East 4-H Dairy Club Show, the Top Senior Showperson was Failli Benschop of Bowmanville, followed by Sliaryn Barkey, Elaine Barkey and Jay VanCamp all from the Black- stock area. The Top Junior Showperson was Glenn Bar- key, Blackstock followed by Brian Goulding, Blackstock. Grace Prins, Hampton, was third and Rene Heeringa, Blackstock fourth. Tom Benschop, Bowmanville Bowmanville had the first place Junior Holstein Heifer followed by John Buma, Bowmanville and Sharyn Barkey.
