Her story for the children, also, was a continuation of the story which fascinated her listeners. "The Lord's Prayer" was sung by the choir led by Mr. S. Sword. The offering was received by Alii Osborne and Bruce Hendry while Harold Symons Symons greeted the congregation congregation at the door. With this lovely weather it is possible still to have the altar vases filled with the glowing colour colour of autumn Rowers. Following Following the service, coffee was served by group 2 of the UCW. On Monday afternoon, Phyllis Symons drove to the Korean luncheon held at Warkworth, taking with her Mesdames Mary Kellogg, Caroline Byers, Jean Payne, Christine Wilson and Edna Barrowclough. Mrs. Symons is president of Cobourg Pre- sbyterial and introduced the speaker, Shelley Wright. The speaker told of her experiences in Korea and of the activities of the Christian church there but also of the very restrictive system of government where people are in fear of being subversive. Many are in prison for having spoken out against the government and letters are requested to be sent to these people who may be granted a little more attention if it is shown the outside world knows about them. One man especially was mentioned who has been detained a long time and is suffering from conditions conditions arising from torture. Information about Korea was distributed around the room with craft work and other objects from that country. On Tuesday, the Welcome UCW enjoyed their annual bus trip accompanied by as many extras as the bus would hold. They called at Blackstock where coats are made from strips of the fur pelt, by crochet or knitting. They enjoyed dinner at The Briars on Lake Simcoe and then to Sharon Temple and Richter's herb nurseries near Stouffville. That was a full day and especially so for those who attended the AOTS meeting at night. For this September meeting meeting the Men's Club invited the public to attend and hear Rev. Gordon Taylor and nurse Leone Trotter tell of their work on the Thomas Crosby at Welcome 1 Church. This boat and its predecessors have been plying the British Columbia coast for many years bringing bringing supplies, help and cheer to lighthouses and isolated places. It is a holiday holiday when it calls with all kinds of help for every day living. Children study by correspondence but the day the boat arrives study is forgotten. For many it is the only contact with the outside world and there is consternation every time there is mention of the possibility possibility of its service ceasing ceasing through lack of finances. finances. There was a good attendance with all appreciating appreciating this further insight insight into the church's work. These beautiful fall days are perfect for driving in the country anywhere but one especially lovely trip is along the lakeshore road from Port Hope to Bon- dhead and Newcastle. The colour of roadside Rowers and changing trees fill the country with beauty while acres of orchards laden with fruit, fields of golden pumpkins, as well as a large new orchard of dwarf apple trees bring a great feeling of thankfulness for the bountiful earth. There are lovely old stone houses too, and if you have some knowledge knowledge of Ontario's history, every bend in the road should remind you of Indian Indian trails and at Port Britain Britain and I Port Granby memories of the days when both places were the shipping shipping points for schooners to load from miles of grain and lumber wagons. Two-year-old Ashley Welsh enjoyed the U.C.W.'s Country Fair at St. Paul's United Church on September 26th. In spite of the rain a good crowd turned out to sample the home-baking, plants, and hand-knitted clothing for dolls and children that were on sale at the fair. The shoppers could also partake of a lovely luncheon in the church hall. : SS3'*" ♦ MITSUBISHI HS-710UR SAVE $100. NOW!! The VCR to suit your lifestyle!
