8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 23,1985 Section Two M.J. Hobbs Happenings M. J. Hobbs held their annual parent-teacher night October 8th. We were pleased with the large turn-out, and would like to thank all those who signed up to be parent volunteers. On October 8th, the boys soccer team won their game against the Pines. Andrew Kammondy and Jason Alexander each scored a goal. Unfortunately, the girls lost a well played game to the Pines 1 - 0. Better luck next time! Volley practices have begun for both girls and boys. On Friday, October 11th, Mr. Webster's class 83 performed plays during Thanksgiving assembly. The production was written by Angela Clark and Jeff Haskins. Thanks to everyone involved. Remember October 25th is a Professional Activitiy Day. By Rachel Patrick Tyrone [Intended for Last Week] Don't forget Tyrone's Hallowe'en Dance on Saturday, Saturday, October 26 and on Saturday, November 30 there will be a Craft and Bake Sale at Tyrone Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a special draw for a Tyrone made quilt at 4 p.m. Call Rebecca Taylor for more information - 263-8471. Our 4-H cooking classes seem to be really baking up a storm. I believe there are 20 mèm- bers or better under the eyes of leaders Mrs. Bedford and Mrs. Ann Pleasance. The Youth Club have an apple picking drive on for Saturday, October 19 at the Jekabson Orchards, north of Tyrone. This club seems to be really trying to keep all meetings and outings very interesting, and I want to thank Susan Slemon and her fiancee Todd for looking after our teenagers' needs and interests. As a one time Hi-C leader, I know how some days it seems like a lost cause and you can get very discouraged at some "smart alecks" or . "very active" members, but hang in there Susan, it really is worthwhile. The Tyrone Senior Citizens Club had a very successful fall bazaar on Wednesday, October 2. The penny sale tickets were completely sold out and the bake goods simply vanished, as well as all vegetables, plants and some crafts. They will soon be getting ready for the Christmas Christmas bus tours to Niagara, Toronto and other exciting trips. Let me tell you, they have great times together - whether it be on buses, at the race track or simply at our Community Centre, every Friday evening, where they host weekly euchre parties. They are to be commended for keeping the hall busy and for introducing many to our facilities. The minister reminded us 1 there are only 60 odd shopping days left until Christmas.! What a thought! Also, we need, lots of mittens, scarves, hats, etc. knitted or bought from stores, to decorate our "mitten tree" in December. These mitts all go to very worthwhile and needy causes. Please help out - even a simple scarf can be knit by those of us who are not very gifted with knitting needles. If anyone knows of a youngster youngster waiting to be christened, the big day will be held in Tyrone on Sunday, October 27, Contact Pastor Joe Lafave immediately.
