The club started their league schedule in Broolkin on Oct. 15 with a 7 - 0 win. Goaltenders Darren Bunker and Paul Gallant both looked sharp in sharing the shutout. Winger Troy Harness paced the attack with three goals. Shane Armstrong had a pair while Chris • Hall and Steve Smith scored the others. Hall assisted on three goals while both Armstrong and Smith set up a pair of goals, as did Brad Carnegie. Brett Cole and Mike Kane also picked up assists. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Toros opened their home season by playing to a 6 - 6 draw with Ajax. Bowmanville led 2 - 0 early in the game, and. 6 - 4 with less than ten minutes left, but Ajax battled back to the draw. Scoring for Durham Building Supplies were Smith with two, Carnegie, Armstrong, Armstrong, Doug Lever and Jeff Reynolds. Assists were recorded by Hall, Armstrong, Lever, Terry Kellett and Jeff Laird. After that, the Toros played shorthanded for much of the first period, taking several unnecessary penalties. penalties. Goalie Gallant was called upon to make several key saves to maintain the lead. Bowmanville scored three goals in the last five minutes of the 2nd period to put away the game. Harness from Armstrong, Smith from Hall, and Kellett unassisted were the scorers. On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Toros ran their league record to 3-0-1 with a 6 - 0 win over the Oshawa Minor Black Hawks. Darren Bunker recorded the shutout, making several outstanding outstanding saves, especially in the third period when once again the Durham Building Supplies squad took several unnecessary penalties. Exhibition Games: Durham Building Supplies played three exhibition games prior to the start of the season. Using a different line-up each game, they lost 3 - 2 to Ajax (their only loss so far) and beat Whitby 5 - 4 and Orono 8 - 2. Pizza Novices Defeat Ajax in Exciting Battle Darlington Arena was the scene this past Saturday of an exciting game between the Dennis Pizzeria Novice Toros and Ajax. This roller-coaster game . saw the Toros open up the scoring six seconds into the game as Ryan Robinson took the puck from the opening face-off and scored with a fifteen-foot wrist shot, a good effort as Ryan was assisted on the goal by Jeff Murphy and David Watt. Ajax came back to take a 2 -1 lead but with less than two minutes left in the first period, Jeff Murphy scored his first of two, assisted on the play by Ryan Robinson. The Toros took a 3 - 2 lead early in the second period as Jeff Murphy tallied again, assisted again by his left winger, Ryan Robinson and defenseman Bruce Harnum. The Ajax squad fought hard, never gave up and were rewarded with two unanswered unanswered goals in the third period to take a 4 - 3 lead. / The Toros however kept pressing and came up with the game-tying tally with less than five minutes remaining in the game as Ryan Robinson scored his second of the day, assisted by Gary Adams. Both teams had good scoring opportunities opportunities the rest of the way, but the Toros kept attacking and with just three seconds remaining on the clock, Mike Nesbitt scored the winning goal to give the Toros a 5 - 4 victory. Assisting on Mike's goal were Jeff Murphy and Ryan Robinson who seemed to be buzzing around the net for the whole game. An exciting game for both teams, and the Ajax team are looking forward to avenging their loss as the Novice Toros travel there this coming Saturday for their return match. If both teams play as well as they did on Saturday, parents and fans alike can expect another exciting game. Our players were anxious, and several hardly slept, as this would be their first real game. Most were players developed developed by the Kinsmen Squirt Hockey program and this proved eventful as we skated to at 15-0 vicotry. Paul Lavallee led the way with 5 goals, followed by Mark McCarthy with 3 goals and 1 assist, Derek Lange with 2 goals, Derek Hall 2 goals, 1 assist, Brent Strand 1 goal, Chris Pot 1 goal, and single assists to Robbie Jeffers, Jeffers, and Jason Lange. Oldtimers Undefeated Audio-Vision Oldtimers started the 85-86 Oldtimers hockey season by defeating Oshawa Sports Den 7 - 3 followed by a 4 - 4 tie with Newcastle Busters then defeating Orono Oldtimers 7 - 3. Audio Vision travelled to Port Hope to play Port Hope Legion Oldtimers and came away with a 5 - 4 victory. Audio-Vision hosted Oshawa Sudsers and nipped them 12 - 4. Audio-Vision's next home game will be against Newcastle Newcastle Buster's at 7 p.m. at Hampton's ice palace. c Mil! London Life Tykes Defeat Shoppers London Life Tykes second second consecutive shut-out of the season ended in a 4-0 victory over Shoppers. Matthew Brake's solid goaltending, and four goal outburst by Paul Lavallee, provided this margin of victory. victory.
