NEW MARINA -- Construction of a new municipally owned marina on the Port Perry waterfront could get underway as early as two weeks and be completed by the end of next April. Township council has accepted a bid for construction of the new facility from Lake Scugog Lumber, Port Perry, and work will get underway this fall. The St. Marys Cement Midgets highlight of the week had to be the Monday night match with Oshawa's Kiwanis Minor Midgets. Although we have two majors, the Oshawa crew is the cream of their minor crop. They have out- scored all other local midget teams by double-figures. Oshawa's Bob Carroll opened opened the scoring at 12:07 of the first period from McCosh and Vail. Mike Gallant replied for Bowmanville one minute later on a pass from George Pithie. Before another minute had elapsed the St. Marys Cement boys had taken the lead on a goal by Glen Campbell on passes by his line mates David Fairey and Paul Stainton. Iain Fraser tied the score with two minutes left in the first period. Oshawa scored the only two goals of the second period from Dines and Fraser. The Kiwanis boys opened the scoring in the third with Kevin Graham scoring from Fraser. George Pithie . brought the locals within two on an assist by Scott Page. At 13:42 Chris Shmyr put Bowmanville back in the game after converting a pass from John Romano and Larry Perris. Iain Fraser again was the thorn-in-the- side as he fired one in the top corner from Dines'. Shmyr closed out the scoring ' with four seconds left after taking a pass from Kelly Balson. Scott Webster played extremely well in the Toros net facing 53 shots and stopping what appeared to be sure scoring chances. On Sunday night, the St. Marys Cement crew visited Ajax AA and edged them 4 - 2. Scott Page had a pair of goals with Paul Stainton and George Pithie adding singles. Assists went to Mike Gallant, Kelly ^ Balson, Bob McArthur, Glen Campbell, David Fairey and George Pithie. David Smith was his usual quick-self in keeping our opponents at bay. After the dynamic contest of Monday, Wt#esday night saw several motors hard to start, Upon taking the ice against Port Perry our "Roaring Toros" slipped behind 4 -1 by the end of the second period. Kelly Balson tallied our marker after stealing the puck and beating Moore in the "Port" net with a nifty piece of stickhandling. Hooked on Video Midgets Earn 8-1 Win in Port Perry seconds old, David Fairey snuck one in on passes by Paul , Stainton and Glen Campbell. Half-way through the third, Jamie Downing converted a pass from defense-partner David Tuepah to pull the crew within one. Mike Gallant tied it up at 9:23 from ScotbPage. The winning goal was scored at 18:46 when David Fairey picked up a clearing pass and used his magic acts to create a win from what had been a dismal night. Our boys proved what they ' can do, against Oshawa. The next thing is for them to be . able to set the pace and duplicate that performance on their own initiative. Pyramid Points Mike Gallant took a hard check on Wednesday but after a day's rest, is on the way to recovery. Our rivalry with Cobourg is renewed on Tuesday when we journey there for a league game.
