United Way organizers announced announced last week that the fundraising fundraising drive had reached $1,839,000. Most canvassing has been completed completed and volunteers are now in the process of collecting all pledges and donations. Donations from a number of Oshawa and area industries have yet to be finalized, but when all funds are collected, organizers expect expect to reach oj. surpass their goal. LENA ALBERTA MAY HEARD The death of Mrs. Lena Alberta May Heard, aged 77, occured suddenly on Tuesday, October 15th, 1985, at Hillsdale Manor, Oshawa. Born in Darlington Township and educated there and in East Whitby Township, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and May Hoskin and was married March 21st, 1933, to Marwood W. Heard. A resident of Enniskillen for 35 years, she had previously resided for one year at Wood- ville. She had been employed in home nursing care and was a homemaker. She was a member of Albert Street United Church, Oshawa. Surviving are Elgin, of Newcastle, Elenor (Mrs. John Lyte), Oshawa, and Dean, Orillia. Officiating at the funeral service , [held at the Morris Funeral Çhapçl,. Bowmanville were trie ReVcrend John Hoskin, a cousin of the deceased, and the Reverend Ken Hewlett of Albert Street United Church. Favourite hymns of the deceased were rendered on the chapel organ. Pallbearers were Messrs. Murray, Jack, Terry and Ron Hoskin, Dan Vivian and Wayne Ormiston. Interment Bethesda Cemetery. MARY (CHILDS) Mcknight 111 for 17 months, Maiv McKnight passed away in Memorial Hosptial, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, on November 4th at the age of 64, of cancer which she contacted in 1969. Born and educated in Bowmanville schools, she was the daughter of Isabel and Joe Childs. On April 5th, 1947 she married Murray Murray McKnight. She was a life long resident of the town. An employee of Stratha- ven Nursing Home for 24 years, she was loved and respected respected by all the patients and employees. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Murray, son James, daughter. Pat (Mrs. Carman Ball), Joseph and Jack, a sister Grace (Mrs. G. Terhune), brother Don Childs and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Don. Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Morris Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers were M. Allen, G. Kennett, F. Beac- age, C. Ball, V. Ball and grandson M. Ball. Many donations were made in her memory to the Cancer Society and the Hosptial Building Fund. Born in Kingston, Frontenac County, she was educated at Courtice. Daughter of Howard Samuel Taylor and Lillie Maude Huggins, she was married on April 9th, 1938, to Arthur Franklin Bedwin. A resident at R.R, 3, Newcastle, for 44 years, she had previously resided at R.R. 2, Newcastle for three years. She was a member of Newcastle Newcastle United Church. Mrs. Bedwin was a dedicated dedicated homemaker, and a lover of animals and birds.
