Bagnell, to the student contributing the most to basketball and a member of the team for three years was presented by Mr. Robert Sheridan to Jim Moorcraft at B.H.S. Commencement Exercises on Friday. FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- On Sunday, goalie Lenny Chappell of the Bowmanville Midget League, turned in a great effort as net- minder for the Jr. C Port Darlington Marina team in a 7-5 win over Lindsay Trent Muskies. CROSS COUNTRY -- If you're thinking of taking up an enjoyable and inexpensive winter sport, or would like to improve your skiing techniques - come to Ski Cross Country. The program consists of a series of instructional videotapes supplemented by a question/answer period with an instructor. Admission free. Thursdays until Dec. 5, 7 p.m. No registration required. Nov. 21 - basic techniques, poles, turns, dips, obstacles. Nov. 28 - Uphill techniques, downhill techniques, competition skiing. Dec. 5 - Overview. Extra things worth knowing. There are programs available for all ages. NEED COACH -- Art MacDonald has terminated his head coach position with the Oshawa Hawkeye Jr. Football team, and as yet a new coach has not been selected. Under the direction of MacDonald, the Hawkeyes only managed two wins in two years. Tire Bantams Win 2 Lose 1 Bowmanville Nov. 1Z The "Canadian Tire" Bantams easily defeated the Pickèririg Twp. Bantam "B" team by a score of 10 to 1. The Tiremen had a 2 - 0 lead at the end of a sluggish first period on goals by Eric Janssens assisted by Dean Baumhauer and by Mark Tripp with assists going to Gareth Stone and Rob Real. In the second period, the home team started off strongly. strongly. They played the body and controlled the puck for much of the period and as a result out scored the visitors 5 to 1 in the period. Nicky Dennis started it off with a goal at 13:03 assisted by Troy Mutton and Dean Baumhauer. Gareth Stone made it 4 - 0 assisted by Stephen Smith and Greg Goode. Craig DeBlois gave the Tiremen a 5 - 0 lead with assists going to Nicky Dennis and Stephen Smith. Dean Baumhauer made it 6 - 0 and less than a minute later Stephen Smith came back to make it 7 - 0. Near the end of the second period, Pickering got their lone goal. An unassisted effort by Steve Wren. Leading 7 to 1 in the third, the Bowmanville Club netted three more goals to round out the scoring. Rob Real who played a strong game got the first two goals of the period and Nicky Dennis finished it off with his second of the night. Bowmanville, Nov. 16 Peterborough were in town tonight to take on the local Canadian Tire Bantam squad in a regular scheduled league game. The play was started by Nicky Dennis who fed a pass to Dean Baumhauer. Baumhauer skated into the defenders and hit Greg Goode with a perfect pass from the corner for the goal. Rob Réal made it 2 - 0 with another power play marker at 8:49 with assists going to Gareth Stone and Dean Baumhauer. Peterborough made it a 2 -1 game when they took advantage advantage of a power play when Greg Goode was sent off for roughing, There was no scoring in the second period. Peterborough had chances to even the score but a tough defence and steady goaltending ended any real threats by the visitors. In the third, Gareth Stone gave the Tiremen a two goal lead once again on a goal assisted by Rob Real and Mark Tripp. The goal by Stone seemed to do the Peterborough club in as they started to take a lot of penalties by trying to iun at and intimidate the Toros. As a result, Rob Real made it a 4 -1 game with a power play goal while the Pete's were two men short. Real's goal was assisted by Mark Tripp and Gareth Stone. Pickering, Nov. 17 The Tiremen travelled to Pickering for an exhibition game against that Centre's "AA" Bantam club and came out on the losing end of a 9 to 1 score. The Bowmanville Club opened the scoring and had a 1 - 0 lead after the first period on a goal by Nicky Dennis assisted by Mark Tripp and Tony VanHoof. In the second, Pickering took control of the game as they scored five unanswered goals on what looked like a tired and short-handed team. The' Toros' Burke Lush and Kevin Zarosky were tested quite often as the-Pickering club was allowed to skate freely in and around the Bowmanville net. Bowmanville Bowmanville had scoring chances by working the puck into the Pickering end but just couldn't finish off the plays. Pickerin«,didn'tletup in the- third. As iimihe second period, they were',allowed to skate at will which produced four more goals for a convincing 9 to 1 score. Pickering outshot the Tiremen 44' to 10 in the game. Tire Tracks: The "Canadian Tire" Bantams were the winners of the $100.00 bonus offered by the B.M.H.A. to the team that sold the most dance tickets. The team management would like to extend a special thanks to Dawn Dennis and Jean Hanthorn who did quite a selling job to earn the team the bonus. The team will be. travelling to Cobourg this weekend to participate in the Major Bantam Tournament. This same Cobourg team beat our Toros in their previous outing 4 - 1. The score remained scoreless throughout the first two periods, as the Dutchman displayed some excellent forechecking by our No. 7 Ryan Stewart and solid net minding by Eddy "Steady Eddie" Strickland for the first half of the game, and then by Paul Zwicker in the second half; Bowmanville got things going early in the third, as Terry VanLonden scored from David Real for a 1 - 0 lead. The same combination scored on a power play midway through the third, Terry from David and Tracy "Speedy" Lemke. With the help of a couple of goal posts the Flying Dutch' man won 2 - 0. Congratulations to Eddy and Paul on their shut-out. Saturday afternoon at Darlington Arena, the stage was set for another league game against Uxbridge. It was a scoreless first period, which saw the Toros play shorthanded for five minutes, displaying some fine defensive defensive and forechecking skills. Late in the second, Uxbridge scored for a 1 - 0 lead after two. But at the nine minute mark of the third period, when defenseman Joel Crombie scored from Terry VanLonden and Tracy Lemke, which was followed up three minutes; later when Richard! "Batman" Bateman scored to ; give the Toros a 2 - 1 lead,. from Captain Tyler Stokes and.' Chad "Army" Armstrong. It 1 was a picture goal as Richard, who was playing centre for. this game, went around two 1 defensive players from. Uxbridge and scored on a good ; hard wrist shot from the slot- position. Uxbridge then picked., up the momentum only to. have defenseman Chadi "Whitey" VanderEnde score, for a 3 - 1 lead, from Chad ; Armstrong and Corey Strand. "Whitey's" goal was similar to "Batman's" goal, a good; hard wrist shot from the slot/ area. Congratulations to alii three goal scorers for their, first goal for the team this season.
