The P.R.O. was asked to inquire about setting up a display in Bowmanville Museum to promote Women's Institute work. A bus trip to the Agriculture Museum at Milton is to be planned tentatively for October October 5th with Providence- Shaw's Branch looking after arrangements. A workshop course of "Financial Planning" is to be held Monday, June 16th, 1986 in Solina Hall at 8:00 p.m. This is being arranged by Mrs. (F) Bernice Watson and Mr. McNamee of Oshawa is to be the speaker, all ladies are welcome. Rousing and entertainment sing songs were enjoyed at several intervals throughout the day led by Mrs. (J) Margaret Margaret Killeen with Mrs. (G) Shirley Brown at the piano. Many ladies were surprised to find they could "yodel". Miss Barbara Weise our Rural Organization Service Specialist informed us in her report of Mr. Ken Knox's replacement to be Mr. Jack Hagarty. There are many requests in organizations other than the ones of the Ministry of Agriculture for Leadership Development short courses. There is an increase in 4-H members in both Durham East and West Districts. This fall the course is to be "Milk Makes It" and for next spring "Surving on your Own". The adult short course is not definite yet with a possibility being "Agriculture "Agriculture Awareness". There were no "new" Resolutions to be read at this time-but the Resolutions Convenor, Convenor, Mrs. (J) Margaret Killeen Killeen motioned to send a strong recommendation from Durham Durham West District that procedures procedures for dealing with resolutions be streamlined at Area level to encourage rather than discourage worthy resolutions. Mrs. (G) Shirley Brown seconded and the motion was carried. .. Representative . of , the Federation of Agriculture, Mrs. (G) Doreen Barrie gave an enlightening report. The Federation is very supportive to the area farmers in many ways, she reminded us all to "Buy the Food Your Neighbours Neighbours Grow". The Federation is also working towards some legislation about persons buying buying building plots in rural areas should be made well aware in writing of the farmer's farmer's right to farm regarding noise and smell. Safety Council Representative Representative Mrs. (H) Sien Eikens expressed regret that the .Safety Council in this area was inactive. A suggestion to seek information from other sources as there is much need for "Safety" with so many massive tractors and implements implements being moved from field to field on the busy roads and- highways. We feel confident with Sien's ability and interest people will be made aware of the need for a Safety Council in this district to help prevent serious mishaps. We adjourned to the lower hall for the attractive and delicious salad luncheon the Hampton ladies had prepared. Table favors were supplied to everyone and we all took part in a very impressive candle lighting ceremony, reminding us all of the bright glow of the Women's Institute. A fitting poem composed by Mrs. (B) Marion Lewis for this ceremony ceremony was read by Mrs. (A) Barbara Macklin-- In each and all our hearts, May friendship's flame shine bright. Our candles here before us Together we shall light. And may this symbol reinforce, Our Founder's aim for all. That we may know the human heart That is common to us all, And let us not forget to be kind. Greetings were brought from our Area President Mrs. (M) Marion Wiseman, The afternoon session began with Mrs. Meta Fish and Mrs. (D) Norma Frew of Nestleton branch giving a thoughtful Memorial Tribute for five deceased members of the past year. Mrs. (P) Eileen Junkin Provincial Provincial Board Director had a lot of information, too numerous to include. Some of the highlights were Scholarships Scholarships paid put in 1985 amounted to $15,000.00; the 90th anniversary of F.W.I.O. will be held next year in North Bay, July 7-8-9,1987; they are asking for one item worth $5.00 per branch for craft table.
