Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henderson on Saturday attended the Bell Telephone Picnic at Petticoat Park, Whitby. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Jones on their 40th wedding anniversary. This occasion was celebrated at the Sunday School with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gray of Newcastle in charge of the guest book. The nieces and nephews served lunch at tables with pink tablecloths. Mr. Bill Lane of Port Hope was chairman for a short program. Congratulations and cards were received. Both made fittingly remarks and thanked everyone for coming including Mrs. Shirley Jones from Sherwood Park, Alberta. . On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Farrow, Jan and Ryan attended the Bowns Stornebrink wedding at Runnymede United Church, Toronto where Jan was junior bridesmaid. Mr. and Mrs. Earle McEwen of Peterborough were dinner guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Vinkle. Another progressive euchre party was held at the Hall on Friday evening. Winners were Jean Jilisen with a score of 89, Carl Todd 89, Margaret Todd 86, Mary Jones 79, Janet Paeden 77, Charlie Finnie 70. Five tables were in play. 50/50 draw won by Reg Elliott. Another party on July 4th. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice O'Neill with Mr. and Mrs. John Goldie attended the Masonic church services celebrating their 25th anniversary at the Beth Zion Synagogue, Oshawa on Sunday afternoon. On Monday afternoon Mrs. Jean Hoy, Lynda Farrow and Ryan attended the presentation of the book of poems at the Dr., Hawkins School, Port Hope. Ryan, a grade 2 student was one of 115 elementary students who was presented with the book in which their poems had been published. The price of the book is $3.00. Last Monday afternoon awards, crests and trophies were presented at the Public School by the teachers Mrs. C. Haase, B. McBride, L. Van Winssen, Jean Joy, L. Crowther, R.A. Allen (French), J. McFeeley (library). Constable Dillon (Safety Patrol) and J.R. Simser. The M.E. Hancock trophy for the most outstanding contribution to school activities was presented by Jean O'Neill and Olive Henderson to Heather Lynn and Paul Pitt. The Durham Region workers held a surprise retirement party for Trueman Henderson at Krebes Restaurant last Wednesday evening. The family attending besides his wife were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wade, Oshawa, Mr. Bob Henderson of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Henderson, Newcastle, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brown, Mrs. Marie Trim, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Leudke, Mr. and Mrs. Moreton Henderson of Morrish and Mrs. Joyce Gator from England. ■ They were presented with a beautiful wall clock. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stapleton and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ogden, Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Farrow and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stapleton, Warren and Jeff were among those who attended the 25th wedding celebrations for Mr. and Mrs. Armond Hollingsworth at the Community Hall, Newcastle Saturday evening. The Women's Institute was held last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding. Plans were made for the picnic at Jean Dutton's in July and our bus trip to Midland in August. Mr. Marvin Stapleton gave an interesting talk about modern farming, comparing it to the way his grandfather farmed, also to the English farming. A question ' and answer period followed. Lena Clysdale and Mary Tompkins were the greeters for church Sunday morning. The choir sang "Let Him In". The sermon was entitled "How . Firm is our Foundation". Next Sunday, a dedication of the crocheted handwork hanging by Meda Stapleton of the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm will be presented.
