Community hall boards are facing an ever-increasing liability risk, according according to the chairman of the Newcastle Newcastle Community Services Advisory Board. Milt Dakin suggested that the risk of lawsuits arises when the halls are rented to individuals or groups for special events such as receptions or banquets. Call 623-5577 for Flowers Trophy for Plowing Newcastle Mayor John Winters was given a trophy Monday night for winning first place in a recent snow plow operators' competition competition sponsored by the Durham Region Public Works Association. The trophy was presented by David Gray, the town's deputy director of works and a representative of the public works association. Mayor Winters tied for first place in the Celebrity Snow Plow event. Larry McLean, McLean, Oshawa's city council representative also tied for first place. In the Snow Plow Rodeo for public works employees, employees, the Town of Newcastle had four entries among the top 10 finishers. These included included Nick Turkocio, who placed second overall; Phillip Phillip Broome and Trevor Cooke (fourth); Danny Taylor and Dan Luke (fifth) and Doug Gordon and Ron Robinson (sixth).
