'"é ' • \ Select Teams Standings Cowan Eagles Give Ajax a Tough Introduction to Town HOCKEY TOURNAMENT -- Bowmanville Audio- Vision Oldtimers are hosting an Oldtimers tourney in Newcastle Village arena on Saturday, November 8th, with teams from Uxbridge, Port Hope, Sunderland, Warkworth, Stortec, King Garden, Heritage House and Town Sports. Games start at 8 a.m. JUNIOR C -- Upcoming games in the Junior C hockey league are as follows. Bowmanville will travel to Uxbridge Uxbridge on Friday, November 7 to take on the Bruins at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, November 9, the Bowmanville Eagles will play at home to Lakefield with game time at 7:30 p.m. Bowmanville meets with Cobourg on Monday, Monday, November 10, at the Cougars' home arena at 8:00 p.m. Bowmanville is then back at home on Sunday, November November 16, to take on the Lindsay Muskies at 7:30 p.m. NEW TEAM -- A girls' hockey team made their first on ice appearance on Saturday, October 18, at the Darlington Darlington Sports Centre. The girls, who are sponsored by Bell Canada„are playing under the B.M.H.A. flag. All of their home games will be played at the Darlington Darlington Sports Centre on Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. They would be pleased with some fan support. TOURNAMENT -- The Bowmanville Audio Visual Old- timers are sponsoring an adult non-contact hockey tournament on Saturday, November 8. The obviously "psyched- up" Eagles grabbed a 2 - 0 lead at the 3:48 mark on a similar play with John Young feeding Chris Dreossi for the goal. The crisp passing and constant hustle of the home team kept the Axemen in a bewil-. dered and disorganized state. Michelson collected his own rebound and made no mistake on his second try as the Eagles controlled the; puck after a facéoff to make it a 3-0 game just 5:19 into the first period. Rob Schlechter scored on a shot from the point at 6:18 to give the Eagles a 4 - 0 advantage. At this point, Bryan Hanke replaced the shellshocked shellshocked Troy Bates in goal for Ajax and this, coupled with a penalty to Schlechter, Schlechter, gavé the visitors a chance to regroup. Greg Van Sickle gave the Axemen Axemen a much needed power- play goal at 9:16 to narrow the gap to 4 -1. Dreossi scored Bowman- ville's fifth goal, but it didn't come until 17:33 of the second period as a more conservative, tight-checking tight-checking style of play was adopted by the two teams. Ajax ended the period with a goal at the 20:00 mark to make it 5 - 2 going into period number 3. St. Marys Cement Toros Defeat Omemee Team Bowmanville's St. -Marys Cement Thros defeated Omemee by'an 8 : 1 score in a game played at the Darlington Sports Centre, Oct. 29th. Bowmanville jumped into an early 1-0 lead when Rob Davidson scored at 13:45 of the first period with assists going to Eric. Janssens and David Morrison. Terry Kellett gave the Toros a 2-0 lead when he finished off a play started by Mike Houston Houston and Mark Matheson while enjoying a man advantage at the 9:08 mark of the period. The Toros made it 3-0 with John Edmondson finding the mark at 7:55. Chris Hall and Mike Houston assisted. Brad Carnegie gave the Toros a 4-0 lead, while still in the first period, with a goal at 2:06, assisted by Jeff Laird and Kevin Flintoff. The Toros closed off the scoring in the period when Eric Janssens made it 5-0 with 0:49 seconds left. It wasn't until 8:37 in the second period when Brad Carnegie connected connected on a power play goal from Scott Burns and David Morrison Morrison to give the Toros a commanding commanding 6-0 lead going into the third period. The goal was Carnegie's second of the night. In the third, Bowmanville netted their seventh goal when John Edmondson got his second goal of the game assisted by Mike Kane and Rob Davidson. Omemee spoiled Toro goal- tender Darrin Bunker's bid for a shutout at 4:18 when Omemee's Dave Vanbeek scored to make the score 7-1. Jeff Laird combined with Chris Hall and Mike Houston to score while enjoying a man advantage when Omemee was given a double minor for roughing. Laird's goal came at the 2:41 mark of the third to give the Toros an 8-1 lead. The Toro win was their third straight in regular season play and they'll be trying to keep the streak going when they face-off against Bewdley tonight at 9, at the Darlington Sports Centre. Roger Brady put Green- leaf ahead 2-0 after one period with- both goals. Picking up assists were Neil Ingram, Mario Debonaven- ture and Irwin Wal- dinsperger. Bill Van- doleweerd scored for the police to narrow the count to one with help from Rod MacDonald and Rick Harker in the third period. Greenleaf was able to hang on behind the great goaltending of Cam Wilson to pick up the narrow victory. victory. Tyke Results by Neil Pot The Optimist of the BMHA- HL will from now on be known as A and R Flooring. We welcome the new sponsors and thank them for the sweaters. The Optimist sweaters we used will return to the tyke select team where they were used last year. We played our first game as A and R Flooring on Oct. 25th against Skylight Donuts. Skylight's Skylight's Kris Polley played a superb game in net, despite a 4-0 win by A and R Flooring. Mike McCrory got his first goal to open the scoring in the second period. He assisted on the next goal with a pass to Niki Defreites. This was Niki's first goal also.
