E.Barrowclough This reporter was in Scarborough on the weekend if November 23rd so church service was omitted from last week's news, but one item of importance must not go unreported, even if late. Jeffrey John Graham and Kenneth James Graham, twin sons of John and Peggie Graham were welcomed into the church through baptism by Rev. W. Sedgwick and received on behalf of the congregation by session clerk, Glen Thompson. These little, boys, bom during the past summer, are regular attenders at church. Welcome church parking lot was so well filled on Sunday, Nov. 30th, that someone who was a little late, found it hard to get a place, making it later still. It pays to be on time. The service was conducted by Rev. W. Sedgwick and the music was in charge of the junior choir, whose anthem was the lovely, "Little Son of Mary". Lighting the Advent McCormick and Jessica attended the confirmation service of Master Robbie Watson in Bowmanville on Saturday evening and then joined in the celebrations later at Mr. and Mrs. Pruner's at Newcastle. As is customary, family groups shared this ceremony. Christine Wilson introduced this first Sunday, and told of the meaning of Advent. Penny Stripp and Denise Tufford alternated the reading of scripture and prayer while Carrie Tufford and Adam Stripp also took part with the latter lighting the candle. Rev. Sedgwick's sermon was based on a text from Matthew concerning the return of Jesus. The very thought provoking message told of the various interpretations of "Therefore be ye also ready". Too many have attempted to name the day and hour and given away their possessions as they waited. This in spite of Jesus' words, 'But of what day and hour knoweth no man". What he did say was, Blessed is that servant who will be found faithful to his duties, rather than waiting passively for an unknown time. The offering was received by Glen Thompson and Melville McHolm. Two very fine pdinsettias brightened the church. The monthly coffee hour followed the regular service when, with coffee and a cookie, many things are discussed by the different organizations and an opportunity provided to greet a neighbour. Ladies are busy quilting at Jane McColl's. This quilt is one destined to be hung in an art gallery and will take at least two five day weeks to complete. The lady who made it had taken a course in Seminole art, and the quilt was sent here from Calgary to be done by Port Britain quitters. We are relieved to report Truman Austin home from the hospital. His leg is not completely healed so he will need some assistance for awhile, but it is good to be home. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Best visited with Barry and Judy Best and grandson Barry Best, near Kingston, on Sunday. Mrs. Phyllis Symons and Peter entertained Rev. and Mrs. Sedgwick at dinner on Sunday and later showed them slides of Nain, Labrador taken by daughter Mary who teaches there. Also many interesting artifacts from that cold part of Canada with its startling effects of black rock and white snow, as well as the very glowing sunset colours and the brilliance of the fall shrubs. Harold and Verna Austin were there for the afternoon also, for like the others they had missed all previous showings and because of their travels in the north are much interested. The bird feeder at this house is deserted these days except for bluejays which seem to need a free meal as well as the plenteous amount to be found for a little work. fënfcffuL Must Inn REAL ESTATE & WHY PAY RENT WHEN YOU CAN BUY THIS MOBILE HOME? - It is a gorgeous general regency mobile home, Cathedral celling, fully furnished, and much more.
