Little Britain Merchants on Sunday evening by a score of 6-5. The Eagles got off to a good start as Chris Dreossi scored just 51 seconds into the contest, collecting a rebound in front of the Merchant net and scoring to give Bowmanville a 1-0 lead. Kelly Balson scored at the 8:01 mark to open a 2 goal lead. Little Britain closed the lead to 2-1 at 10:33 during a power play, but Scott Heard made it 3-1 for the Eagles at 13:39. Little Britain took advantagé of a lapse of intensity by the home team to score two goals by the end of the period to make it 3-3 after 20 minutes. Brian Heard scored Bowmanville's fourth goal, early in the second period but Little Britain's Brian Carpenter replied not long after as he went in on a breakaway and flipped the puck into the top corner as goaltender. Dave Smith went down well before the puck left Carpenter's stick. The visitor's took the lead for the first time at 19:01 and went) into the third period with a 5-4 advantage. Jerry Kea gave the Merchants an insurance goal at 0:57 of the third period. Chris Michelson put Bowmanville back into the game less than 1 and a half minutes later. Only then did the Eagles begin to look as if they wanted to win the game and applied some pressure but despite two power play chances and numerous good opportunities they failed to score and went down to defeat by a 6-5 margin. It was a game the seemingly overconfident Eagles could easily have won if they had been willing to apply a consistent effort throughout the game. This is the second home game in a row the Eagles have been guilty of this and they must correct this to have a hope of beating a good team like Ajax whom they will be facing in a couple of week's time. The Eagles next home game is this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Wellington.
