FLASHBACK--10 YEARS AGO -- The All Star Junior C:team met the Cobourg Cougars in Cobourg on December December 27. The Junior C's took a victory of 5-3. The three stars were: Rory Gibbs, Bowmanville; Jean Doucette, Frankfords; and Port Perry's Doug Christy. St. Marys Midget B Win Streak Comes to an End JUNIOR C -- The Bowmanville Eagles are scheduled to travel to Wellington on Friday, December 19 for game time at 8:30 p.m. The Wellington Dukes will then be visiting the Bowmanville Arena on Sunday, December 21,-' to take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The Cobourg Cougars will play on home ice against the Eagles on Monday, December 22 at 8:00 p.m. TOROS -- The Bantam Toros will play at home to Cobourg on Wednesday, December 17, at 7:30 p.m. The last of the 1986 scheduled Toro games will be played on Saturday, December 20. In Novice hockey, Lindsay will be visitors to Darlington at 1:00 p.m. The Atoms are scheduled to play Peterborough at the Sports Centre at 3:20 p.m. The Peewees will meet with Peterborough Peterborough as visitors. Game time is unknown. The . Peewee 2's will be at home to Orono at 4:30 p.m. The Bantam 2's will meet with Oshawa on home ice at 8:30 p.m. Other Toro teams do not have any further games ; scheduled until the new year. WINNERS -- The Flying Dutchman major midgets participated participated in the Napanee Major Midget Tournament on Saturday, December 6. The Dutchmen placed first in the tournament, defeating Brockville, Gananoque and Sterling. Congratulations! NO. 115 Lacklustre Eagles Drop 6-5 Decision to Visiting Little Britain It was a dull and disappointing night for the Cowan Jr. C Eagles on Sunday when they dropped a 6-5 game to the visiting Little Britain Merchants. This picture was taken when the score was tied at 4- 4 in the second period and the Eagles were trying, without much success to score on the visitors. Midget Bs Defeat Port Perry 4 to 3 After spotting tne Fort Perry club a 3-0 lead, Bowmanville fought back to defeat the Port 4-3 in a game played at Darlington, Dec. 10th. • Port Perry took an early 1-0 lead when a wicked slap-shot beat Toro goaltender Travis Martyn high, on the glove side, hitting the corner just under the crossbar. The 1-0 score held up for the remainder of the period. The Toros had their chances in the period. Ringing three shots off the Port Perry goal posts and then firing another shot wide of the open net. In the second period,".Fort Perry went ahead 2-6 with; a power-play goal 9:06i With 5:30 remaining to play in the period, Port Perry made it 3-0. Toros' goaltender Travis Martyn made the initial stop but pulled a thigh muscle and laid injured at the Port player banged -. in the loose puck into the open net. The injured goaltender was replaced by Darrin Bunker. The Toros started their come-back at 5:05 when Scott Burns combined with Brad Carnegie and Kevin Flintoff to finish off a nice three passing play to make it 3-1. Brad Carnegie cut the Port Perry lead to 3-2 when he took a pass from Scott Brunt and fired a low shot to corner on the goalie's stick side. Mike Houston made a nice individual effort after taking a lead pass from Jeff Laird to stickhandle around the Port Net and fire a shot between the goaltender's legs to tie the game at 3-3 with 9:17 left on the clock. Then with 2:43 remaining, the Toro Terry Kellett gave the Toros a 4-3 lead with Laird and Houston assisting on eventual game winner. NEWCASTLE 5 BOWMANVILLE 2 The Bowmanville Midget B's lost their third league game Dec. '11th as Newcastle put an end to a modest winning streak the club had put together over the last two weeks. Newcastle took advantage of some bad defensive lapses to go on and take a 5-2 victory over the Toros and extend their hold on first place in the "115.League"; ; : Two of Bdwmanville's three losses have come,at the Hands of the Newcastle'Club with the other being against Port Perry. Newcastle opened' the scoring at 8:51 of the first period when the Toro defence was caught up ice which lead to a two-on-one break for Newcastle. Dwayne Foster fed a pass to Willy McGarvey, McGarvey breaking down the left boards, drew the lone Toro player towards him, and fed a perfect pass to a wide open Fred Millson. Newcastle made it 2-0 when the Toros, while enjoying a power-play, made an errant pass which lead to another two-on-one with Todd Yarrow being credited with the goal. Willy McGarvey put Newcastle into a 3-0 lead when, while short-handed again picked up a losse puck after the Toro defenceman lost his balance and skated in alone and beat Toro netminder Darrin Bunker. In the second period, Fred Millson got his second goal of the game at 10:02 to give his club a 4-0 lead over the Toros. The Toros, for their part, looked a bit sharper in the second period than in the first. In the first period, they could only muster up about four good shots and in the second period they created a little havoc around.,the Newcastle net. In the third, the Toros closed the gap to 4-2 when Eric Janssens scored on another power-play assisted by Rob Davidson and John Edmondson at 11:59. Like in the second period, the Toros pushed Newcastle which resulted in them taking eight minor penalties in the third and sixteen overall. The Bowmanville St. Mary's Cement Midget 'B' Toros started the month of December off with a narrow 5-4 victory over Orono. It's the first time both teams met this season and you could see that the old rivalry between these two centres is still quite evident. Both teams played good, clean aggresive hockey with the lead changing back and forth and only a late third period goal by the Toros' Dave Morrison with just over two minutes remaining, gave Bowmanville the win. The Toros opened the scoring in the first period, when Eric Janssens finished off a play started by Brad Carnegie and Scott Brunt at the 7:10 mark. Orono tied the game with 1:20 left in the period - Patrick Woods beat Toro netminoer Darrin Bunker. In the second, Shawn Bailey put Orono ahead 2-1 with an unassisted goal at 10:37. With Orono. a man short, Eric Janssens got his second goal of the night at 7:49. The power-play marker was set-up by Brad Carnegie and Kevin Flintoff to pull the teams even at two apiece. Taking advantage of power-play opportunity, Bowmanville went ahead 3-2 when Rob Davidson scored at 3:13 with Mike Houston earning the assist. Orono then drew even with the Toros, when Scott McCollough scored with only four seconds remaining in' the period. In the third, Orono jumped into a quick 4-3 lead when Kevin Hartwig beat Travis ' Martyn for the go ahead goal in the first minute of play. Rob Davidson, with his second goal of the night, pulled the Toros even again at 4-4. Davidson, on a part breakaway, breakaway, picked up his own rebound to tie the game after the Orono goalie made a great save on the initial shot. Orono pressed for the tie breaker. However, Travis Martyn who shared the game with Darrin Bunker made some great saves especially after they took a 5-4 lead and had to play two men short for the last two minutes of the game. BOWMANVILLE 7 OMEMEE 3 In a game played at Omemee Dec. 8th, the Cementmen extended their unbeaten streak to 5 games with a 7-3 victory over the home 'tow;' reps. Bovymanville, on the strength of a power-play goal by Rob Davidson with only 0:49 seconds left in the period carried a 1-0 lead going into the second period, Dave Morrison and Jeff Laird assisted on the Davidson goal. Omemee tied the game at the 11:08 mark of the second with Steve Nicholls credited with the goal. The Toros' John Edmondson- gave his club a 2-1 lead at 1:08 with Mike Kane and Scott Burns assisting. Chris Foley's goal at 13:39 of the third period tied the'gamé at 2-2. Chris Hall gave the Toros' a 3-2 lead at 12:31 with Mike Houston setting up the go ahead marker. Scott Burns made it 4-2, Bowmanville, at 10:38 with Kevin Flintoff and Brad Carnegie assisting. Omemee cut the Toro lead to 4-3 on a goal by Marc Campbell with 4:07 remaining in the period.
