8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 17,1986 Durham Building Bantam 2 Toros Sweep 4 Games Exploding for 19 goals in four games, Durham Building Supply Toro Bantam 2's made a clean sweep last week as their sharp shooters showed no mercy for opposition goalies while Toro defence , frustrated enemy attackers by closing the gates. ■ Oshawa Bruins , Sweet revenge prevailed ; when Toros met the Oshawa ! Bruins on December 1, The 1 last time the two teams met was in pre-season play and the results were catastropic for Toros. But not this time. The all-improved package was introduced to the Bruins that night and when the first period was over Toros were up 4-0. Scoring for Bowmanville were , Sean Dalton (unassisted), Tim , Powers (John Duczmalewski, ■' Sean Dalton); Tim Partridge (Chris Ewles); Jim Pithie (Chris Ewles, Tim Partridge). With only 9 skaters, Toros tired in the second, getting sloppy at times around their own net. Failure to clear and five consecutive Toro mm jMÊÊBÉi rasp., mmÊÊmm iSWWfjWSàv .jfiESJSB -, f ' « penalties allowed Oshawa two unanswered goals, to end the period 4-2. When Oshawa continued to drive in the third, aided by some questionable calls including a goal that was^ clearly not in, the score was àuddenly tied and Toro fans 1 feared the game would be lost. , 3 . \ However, with 57 seconds left < ' Oshawa was called for slashing setting up a face-off ,S: t; in - the Oshawa end. Orono An apparent mismatch occurred December 1 in Orono as Toros continued their » * 1 scoring romp. Tim Powers who grabbed a hat-trick ■ A) '. during the game opened the ' scoring at 4:38 of the first assisted by Tim Partridge and Scott MacKinnon. From that point on it was total Toro domination. Continuing the ' scoring were Jeremy Laird (Chris Ewles, Paul Crago); Tim Powers (John Duczmalewski, Jim Pithie); Sean Dalton (Chris Ewles); Tim Powers (Jeremy Laird, Chris Ewles), Paul Crago, always effective on defence, was injured in the game causing another line shift. Toros allowed their guard to drop momentarily, and Orono spoiled the shutout in the third to end the game 4-1. ... ' J' 1 ' ■ - J Baltimore ïX'fi'y'Y. We're not saying the, game on December 6 was one-sided " but if a flood were called after •v ; 4 each period they would only H have cleaned the Baltimore "" : :' V .' end. Bowmanville simply out classed this slower club in all departments. Nevertheless a hot Baltimore goalie frustrated Toro attackers as yE||' hé redirected all shots to end the first period in a scoreless tie. Fans knew it would break wide open soon. Tim Powers (unassisted) opened the scoring at 13:51 of the second, taking the puck at the drop, twirling and snapping it past a dazed goalie. From then on it was just a matter of protecting the shut-out. By 6:53 of the third Toros were up 5-0 with scoring by John Duczmalewski (Jeremy Laird, Tim Powers); Tim Powers (Steve McCullough, Paul Crago); Tim Partridge (Séan Dalton, John Duczmalewski); John Duczmalewski (Paul Crago, Jeremy Laird). Unfortunately once again Warren Wright had his shut-out foiled in the dying minutes when a puck bounced off his won defender to end the game 4-1. Omemec The previous games were only warm-ups for Saturday night, December 6 against Omemee, one of the hottest clubs in the circuit. Toros desparately wanted to beat this team, having been assaulted by them a few weeks earlier. (Toros tied that one with one second left on the clock.) The first period ended scoreless as Toros fought to end to end battle with Omemec but their reluctance to hit this fast moving club allowed Omemee to dominate the boards. Tim Partridge opened the scoring at 10:50 when Tim Powers muscled his way through the Omemee defense directing a pass through the crease to Tim Partridge (assist to Scott MacKinnon). Refusing to be battered about any longer Toros finally came alive and regained ownership of the boards. Omemee grabbed one back early in the third and tension grew when the momentum appeared to turn. However, Toros brought out their secret weapon - Chris Ewles. The Great Assister exploded for two to win the game 4-2, Assisting in Chris' goals were Tim Partridge and Scan Dalton; Tim Partridge and Paul Crago. Congratulations to Dan Szucli who played well despite Ills injured shoulder and Brooke Clemens and Steve McCullough for their never- ending hustle. What can we say about Warren Wright except Holy Moly • what a goalie! xi-.. ' ÎÊÊÈÈ&müé. I - y %tb v Introduces to Bowmanville... the Kodak System 25 New! Better! Faster!
