Cavvker, Cathy Perris, Beth Crowe and Carolyn Piper rode beautiful beautiful horses from the Cawker riding stables. FLASHBACK--10 YEARS AGO -- On Sunday night at Memorial Arena, Bowmanville, Jeffrey Payne of Ontario Ontario Street was the big $500 winner in the Eagles' Jr C hockey draw. HOLIDAY TOURNEY--The Major BMHA Tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 26, ending on Sunday, December 28. Games will take place all day during the three day tournament. Major Atom, Peewee, Bantam and Midgets will all be competing competing throughout the event, which is being held at both Bowmanville and Darlington arenas. JUNIOR C -- During the holidays, the Bowmanville Eagles will be competing in an all-star game at Lakefield on Friday, December 26. Time has not been announced. On Sunday, December 28, the Eagles will be at home to Port Hope for game time at 7:30 p.m. On Home ice again, the Eagles will meet with Port Perry on Tuesday, December 30 at 8:30 p.m. FITNESS CENTRE -- Aside from the regular public swim sessions, the Fitness Centre will be open for a few extra times during the holidays. On December 23 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.; December 26 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.; December 30 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. and January 2 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. The Centre will be closed at 12:00 noon on December 24th and December 31st, and will be closed all day on December 25th and January 1st. KAWARTHA DOWNS -- An additional racing date has been added to the 1986 schedule at Kawartha Downs. ■Post time will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 26. ; As a special Christmas gift to racing fans, admission and parking will be free. AQUATICS CLUB -- The Newcastle Aquatic Club attended attended their first swim meet on Saturday, December i; 13 at the York Swim Club in Toronto. There were a : total of 12 teams and 250 swimmers participating. The Newcastle Fitness Centre had eleven swimmers repre- senting their club. The swimmer of the day was Greg Ï: Wells in the 11 and' 12-year-old category. He placed ■ first in every event he entered. MORE WINNERS -- At the swim meet, in the 8 and under category of 25 freestyle, Sarah Stevenson placed ,13th and Stacey Rout place 16th out of 41 swimmers. In the 9 and 10 category of 50 freestyle, Kim Cox placed 6th, Stephanie Maxwell 8th, Jason Shephard 19th and Luke Sagur 21st. In the 11 and 12 category of 50 freestyle, Yolanda Jones was 5th, Shannon Mack 6th, Heather Murdoch 10th, and Greg Wells 1st. The 8 and under category of 50 backstroke gave Sarah Stevenson an 11th /and Stacey Rout 29th. The 9 and 10-year-old 50 back- stroke was: Kim Cox 11th, Stephanie Maxwell 25th, Jason Shephard 23rd, Luke Sagur 24th. The 11 and 12- /ÿear-old 50 backstroke gave Shannon Mack 3rd, i Yolanda Jones 6th, Heather Murcoch 11th and Greg Wells 1st. The 8 and under 25 breaststroke gave Sarah Stevenson 14th and Stacey Rout 17th. In 9 and 10-year- olds' 50 breakstroke Stephanie Maxwell was 28th, Kim : Cox 33rd, Jason Shephard 20th, and Luke Sagur 21st. ; ill and 12 breaststroke was Shannon Mack 6th, Yolanda Jones 8th, Heather Murdoch 23rd, and Greg Wells 1st. RELAY -- In the 9 and 10 girls relay at the Aquatics club swim meet, the girls finished in second place. The team was made up of Stephanie Maxwell, Sarah Stevenson, Stacey Rout, and Kim Cox. A first place also went to the girls 11 and 12 relay team, made up of:; Yolanda Jones, Heather Murdoch, Kim Cox and Shannon Mack. Major Atoms Busy Schedule The Major Atom Select team has had a busy schedule. On November 23, the team played Uxbridge at Darlington Arena. Our team outhustled the Uxbridge team right from the beginning of the game to defeat them 9-0. Our goals and assists were spread throughout the team-a great team effort. Goals were scored by Joey Bate (2), Adam Cota (2), Darrell Sewell (1) , Jeff Johnston" (3), and Craig Rickard (D, Tim Mills (2) , Jason Wichman (2), Kevin Colbourne (2), Joey Bate (2), Adam Cota (1), Matt Yeo (2), Andrew Perkins (2). On December 7, we played a very evenly matched team from Port Hope. Both teams put forth a tremendous effort but we managed to shut them out 3-0. Our goals were scored by Craig Rickard assisted by Joey Bate and Adam Cota, Adam Cota assisted by Craig Rickard. Jason Wichman scored in an empty net ot clinch the game. With two shutouts in a row, we thought we had it made-but we had our work cut out for us when we played Whitby at Iroquois Park. Whitby is a fine team and displayed excellent hockey skills as they defeated us 5-0. However, we had them back on December 14 to show them that we could play hockey. It was a super game with lots of team effort - we were defeated 1-0 but we gave it a good try. On December 13, Agincourt Canadians couldn't make the game so we played Checkers Peewees. In the first minute of the game our team watched Checkers score two fast ones. Then we decided to play! ! It was a great game with Checkers winning 4-3. Thanks to the players and coaches of the Checkers team for playing on such short notice. Our goals were scored by Adam Cota unassisted, Jeff Johnston assisted by Andrew Perkins and Darrell Sewell, Jason Wichman assisted by Jason Moore and Andrew Perkins. Sarah is presently a grade two student at Lord Elgin Public School and devotes the rest of her time to swimming. swimming. Prior to the forming of the Aquatics Club Sarah spent her summers swimming in her backyard and this past summer on a swim team. Sarah is enrolled in swimming swimming lessons at the Fitness Centre and has her blue badge in level green. Once Sarah has completed her green level, she will move on to gray and then white. Upon completing the white level, she will have her Red Cross certificate. . Sarah ' said,- "When I get my Red Cross I'm going to spend all my time with the Aquatics Club." Her favorite part of swimming swimming is diving and the front crawl. Recently Sarah attended a swim competition in Toronto Toronto with other members of the Aquatics Club. Each event Sarah participated in had 43 swimmers. In freestyle freestyle swim, Sarah placed 13th, she came in 11th in the backstroke, and 14th in the breaststroke: But her big win of the day was a fourth place in the butterfly.
