The first sermon of the new year at Hampton Church dealt with the theme "Beginnings without end." In this sermon sermon the minister explained that as long as we live we ■ face new beginnings every day. Life is constantly changing and it is up to us to accept these changes and rise to the challenges that will face us. The service was highlighted with a solo by David Dewell accompanied by Ross Metcalf on the piano. Next Sunday's service service will feature the Sacrament Sacrament of Holy Communion. The Sacrament of Baptism will be observed on Sunday, January 25. The Man's breakfast group will meet on Thursday, Thursday, January 8 at 7 a.m. In the year 1987 there arc a few improvements I would like to see take place in Hampton. The first tiling I would like to see is the Mill pond cither restored or at least cleared of weeds and HEENAN -- Michael G. at Oshawa General Hospital on Tuesday, January 6, 1987, Mike Heenan of R.R. 3 Bowmanvllle, In his 63rd year. Beloved husband of Jessie Nemls, dear father of April, Mrs. E. Goddard (Marie), Mrs. T. Mclnnls (Mona), Darryl and Michael. Dear brother of Mrs. T. Cousineau (Harriett), George B„ Arthur L„ Mrs. G. Danbrook (Genevieve) and Mrs. W. Reid (Ann). Also survived by 6 grandchildren. Resting at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass for Christian Burial 10 o'clock Thursday at St. Therese's Church, Courtice. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Grafton. JOHNSON - Annie (Anne) at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanvllle on Tuesday, January 6th, 1987 at age 71 years. Anne (Bradford) of Bowmanvllle, beloved wife of the late Thomas (Tom) Johnson. Dear mother of Nancy (Mrs. George Peebles) of Pickering and Rober! Johnson of Oshawa. Loved grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Lydia Hiles of Belleville and the late Betty Mountnay. Friends may call at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanvllle on Thursday from 12 noon - 1 p.m. Funeral service In the Chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. Interment Bowmanvllle Cemetery. MSN possibly trees or flowers planted in the pond bed. The road across the pond should be permanently repaired repaired and the old mill building should be demolished. demolished. It could be replaced replaced with a tea room or a craft store. The park which is owned by CLOCA needs more playground equipment equipment and some picnic tables. tables. Some flower gardens at the park entrances would enhance this rather forlorn place. The park used to be a favorite spot for a walk but since the deterioration of thè pond it has become just a soccer field. With two service stations, a restaurant and a variety store at the corners of Scugog and Tauton Rd. this has become a dangerous intersection intersection and has been the scene of many accidents. There should be traffic lights at this intersection. The last change I would like to see is in the attitude of Hampton residents. We need a more optimistic outlook outlook on the future of Hampton. We can accomplish accomplish a lot if we join forces and support the Community Community Association. If the Community Association 1 ceases to function we will have no say in changes but if we all work together it can happen. The card parties are a good example of how people can work together. These parties were begun with the Community Association Association backing about seven years ago. Muriel Yeo was the first person in charge of them. The card parties got off to a slow start but with a lot of perseverance, and location changes they began to pay for themselves. themselves. Now they no longer need community support but for the last four years have been able to donate money to the community associations, associations, the church, Community Care, Bowman- ville, Sunnybrook and Sick Children's hospitals, the Salvation Army and other local charities. When Muriel Yeo moved to Bow- manville, Ruth Farrow, Betty Barnes and myself took over the setting up of tables, arranging lunches and prizes for the card games. Participants at the games help with luncheon donations, serving and cleaning up. The Community Community Association and the Service Club have given us the use of their card tables. The Hampton Scouts held a family Christmas party this year which had 100 per cent attendance. The Junior Councillors under the direction of Adam Kiff planned the refreshments and entertainment for this enjoyable evening, Hockey parents had a busy holiday transporting their boys and girls to the many tournaments held in the area. We are sure they were all winners. The card parties begin again this Wednesday, January January 7 at 8 p.m. in the C.E. wing of the church. Oshawa Monument Co. On December 29, the Sub boys travelled to Newcastle for the Annual Pee Wee Tournament. The boys were runner-ùps in the "A" championship. The first game was against Orono with the Sub boys skating to a 3-1 victory. The next game was against Newcastle. Neither team could manage to score until the 3rd period with Newcastle connecting at the 12:57 mark. The Sub coach stated that the puck was kicked in, this earned him a bench penalty. This penalty got the Sub team going with Kent Vanderheyden connecting with a short handed goal. Kent connected again 2 minutes later. Kent scored the last Sub goal with assist going to Steve Gods- mark. Todd Lepard was lost to the team with a damaged shoulder. The Sub team went into the "A" Championship game with both Todd Lepard and Kent Vanderheyden, as question marks. The Grafton team came out strong, scoring an easy 5-1 victory. Kyle Purdy scored the only Sub goal with assist going to Morris Kilmer and Leon Coates. Merry Makers Winners offirstschedule: Capt.: C. Roberts. B. Brown, A. Smythe, E. Carswell, D. Connelly, B. Their work not only adds to the store of human knowledge, It can also have Important implications for those living in modern society. While the death rites of most primitive peoples would be unacceptable In communities In this country, we can see how their ceremonies serve much the i same purpose as our own funeral services. Just as marriages, births, comings ol age were celebrated by the community, so Was death. It was not an event for one person, or even one family, to take on alone. Expressing grief, sharing grief, somehow helped the mourners to accept their loss. They could feel the support of the community, see that others respected and identified with their experience. The primitive funeral rite also sought to dispell the horror and fear of death, to give it significance with respect to life.
