Helping the mayor were Joanne Brown and Joe Real and taking the faceoff were Andrew Ferguson of Pickering and Tim McCarthy of Dennis Pizzeria. Pickering won 4-3. Chris Kooy is presenting the MVP trophies to the MVPs in the Pee Wee 2 game between Bowmanville and Oshawa Red Wings. •Unfortunately, we seem to have mislaid the names of the players. In the Intermediate Girls game, Bowmanville lost out to Whitby Marigolds. A1 DeSmidt presented the trophy to Capt. Bonnie Steward and the MVPs were Oshawa Canadians defeated Bowmanville 2-1 in the Major Pee Wee game. Joe Real presented the MVP awards to Capt. Pat McCarten, Oshawa and Dana Barrett, Bowmanville. ! i December 3rd Darlington Arena Toros vs Port Perry Well the kids bounced back from the Saltfleet tournament and looked really really impressive tonight by over-coming Port Perry 12 to 2. Actually the game started out to be a disaster with the visitors leading until the 10 minute mark of the first period but from that point on it was all Toros. Bowmanville scorers were lead by Jeff Rohr who put on a super show with 5 goals and 2 assists. Next, Nick Dennis made his presence presence felt with 3 goals and 4 assists. Todd Johnston' also proved himself worthy with 2 goals and 3 assists. Singles went to Shane Armstrong and Steve Smith. It was a super effort by all. Lindsay Tournament December 6th Toros vs Cobourg The kids started off the tournament on the right foot with a victory over their arch rivals from Cobourg. It was a very close-checking game and surprisingly, there was only one penalty in the entire match. Toros shooters were Tony Van Hoof, Neil Taylor and Dean Baumhauer, who scored the winner. Toros vs Lindsay This game was a complete "landslide" with the kids dominating the ice. As in the past, Lindsay proved to be lacking in horse power. Well the kids reached that point today and to show what good stuff they are made of they passed the test. In all honesty, I'm very proud of what these kids are made of. Over the past few weeks the Bantams have had a very very busy schedule, playing over 20 games. Today's game was against a team of a friend of mine and he won't like me saying that they aren't in the same league what-so-ever. (Sony Bill.) But they aren't. BALTIMORE TOURNAMENT On January 2, Toros competed against three teams and were judged the winners as they eliminated all opposition. Meeting Millbrook in the first game, Toros were hard- pressed at first but when their skating legs arrived they soon outdistanced Millbrook, downing them 4-0. Perhaps 1 too much Christmas celebration slowed the boys down but they were outplayed 3-1 the first game against Omemee, a team they have beaten in the past. Flying Dutchmen Midgets Win Xmas Classic Game The Flying Dutchman Major Midgets truly were flying between Christmas and New Year's to capture the "A" championship in the B.M.II.A.'s Christmas Classic Tournament. They did it in a very convincing fashion by outscoring the opposition in 4 games 26-3. Game one saw them out- shoot WcstMall 42-6, and outscorc them 10-0, witli Scott Webster collecting the shut-out. Paul Stainton netted 3 goals, Mark Tripp and Shawn llckkcr two each with singles going to Glen Campbell, George Pithie and Scott Page. The second game was an 8:#0 a.m, affair but our boys were wide awake, oiitslmol- ing Branmlca 30-13 and coming out on the winning end of a !)-l score, Burke. Lush minded the not, Mike Colwell collected the lint trick with singles going lo Chris Slimyr, Paul Sininlon, Glen Campbell, David Fnirey, Shawn Uckker and John Romano. Peterborough supplied tlic opposition of the third game which turned out to be a cliff-hanger. The match was a scoreless draw up to five minutes remaining in the third witli both goallcn- ders rising to the occasions. Paul Stainton notched the winner for the Toros on passes from Troy Harness and John Romano. Chris Slimyr then rifled a wrist shot between the defenceman's defenceman's legs which caught the top corner for the insurance marker. Chris was fed the pass by David Faircy and Mark Tripp. Scott Webster earned the shut-out for Bowmanville witli a couple of dazzling slops. The stage was then set for the championship game against Port Perry, who had won the other pool. Port jumped to a quick 1-0 lend until George Pithie netted one lo even the score. The hoys from Lake Scugog again look the lead which held up until the second period. Mike Gallant was Hie marksman to again lie the score. A goal by Shawn By Dan Morlarlty The Bowmanville Eagles Jr. C Hockey Team, sponsored by Cowan Pontiac Ltd., won two very important games earlier this week. On Tuesday evening, the Eagles faced the league leading Port Perry MoJacks at the Bowmanville Memorial Arena. The Eagles put four goals on the board before the game was 11 minutes old as Rob Schlecter, Brian Heard, Mark Hickey and Scott Heard scored singles to put Bowmanville up 4-0. Port Perry's Rick Wilson scored at 12:42, but Schlecter and Randy Ellis replied for the Eagles to make it 6-1. The teams traded late power play goals, with Brian Heard scoring his second goal of the game with just 3 seconds left. Steve Terry and Rob Schlecter scored second period goals after Darren Nesbitt had reduced the lead to four, and the score was 9-3 after 40 minutes. Roger Hornsby, Mark Hickey, and Steve Terry added third period goals as the Eagles went on to win by a score of 12-4. Sunday evening's game with Ajax was a little more tense, but Eagle netminder Dave Smith.made several big third period saves to preserve the . win. Ajax's Bill Calan opened the scoring at 13:36 of the first period on a shot from the point, but Troy Foster and Randy Ellis scored at 18:44 and 19:36 respectively to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead after 1 period. An Ajax power play goal at 1:07 of the second tied the score but Chris Michelson poked in a rebound in front of Rckker near the end of the second gave the Dutchman Toros the lead which they never relinquished. Mark Tripp and David Faircy scored late in the third to wrap up the championship, championship, Burke Lush made several key blocks to keep Port Perry off the score sheet in the latter part of the game. The Toros outshot the Port team 28-26. Two weeks previously in a league game at Port Perry the Toros outshot them 32- 30 and won the game 6-4. To date, Port Perry has been the strongest opposition the Dutchman boys have had. In the Port Perry game Lush <imd Webster shared the net duties and George Pithie counted a hat trick with other goals going to Mark Tripp, Chris' Slimyr and Glen Campbell, with Glen also notching 2 assists. the Ajax net to regain the Eagle lead at the 4:39 mark. Bernie Deveaux tied the game for Ajax at 3:45 of the third period but Mark Hickey scored the winning goal for Bowmanville at the 7:33 mark. The Eagles, who came into the game with an embarrassing embarrassing 5 goals against average, played a solid defensive game. The return of Paul Robinson as head coach has given the Eagles a steadily improving defensive game.
