Bob and daughter Crystal Carmichael in Morinville, Alta., near Edmonton. Those present to enjoy the Christmas dinner were Mr, and Mrs. Clarence Page of B.ethany R. R., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Page of Peterboro, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Page and family of Peterboro, Mr. and Mrs, Ian Page and family of View- lake, Mr. Floyd S'tinson, Danny and Jo-anne Stinson. On Tues., Corrie and accompanied Eileen and Howard Malcolm to visit Eileen's Aunt Betty Whittaker who is currently hospitalized in a Hamilton Hospital but hopes to be released soon. Later, the group observed Corrie's Birthday with dinner out in one of Hamilton's fine restaurants. Mr. Jack Burton, an employee of Maltheb farms flew home to England to visit Celebrated Firüt Birthday Congratulations Mom and Dad. You've made it through my first year.! On November 3,1986,1, Brian Albert had a great birthday party. Mom and Dad (Brian and Sophia Tink) Oakville, Grandma and Grampa Tink (Walter, Marjorie). Bowmanville and Nona and Dziadek Broniek (Bill, Mary) Islington, and my aunts and uncles were all there to spoil me with gifts and love. My great grandmothers, Myrtle Tink and Tina DiTomaso sent their love also. his family at Christmas. Numerous family gatherings were the order of the day on Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Gundry of Barrie, Candy Malcolm and Eileen and Howard Malcolm with the Terry Malcolm family. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wilson hosted their family, Mrs. Ann Hurrin and Hally; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beggs and family of Port Elgin and Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Brown and family: Murray Malcolm and Ann entertained most of their respective families for a large hethoge'n.io'us ••;./, family gathering. Here at Malconia all our children gathered for the festive occasion - a fowl dinner so to speak. The Frank Glasbergen family had a double decker day - a McGill gathering at sister Vaneetos in Peterboro and a Glasbergen get together. at sister Corrie Van Der Meer's in Nestleton, With all the happy family gatherings taking place on Christmas Day, a pronounced note of sadness was injected into our community with the news of the sudden passing of one of our Yelverton area residents living in the Cartwright area west of the hamlet. We refer to the untimely death of Mr. Joe Hurtig, who although suffering poor health recently, appeared to be showing signs of improvement. The Hurtig family, Joe and Ida and their 3 children and their families had enjoyed a festive evening on Christmas eve and Joe had even supervised the Christmas Christmas tree decoration. During the night, Joe suffered a relapse and passed away in route to the hospital by ambulance Christmas morning. Funeral services are schedled for Saturday from the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry with Rev. John Evans officiating. Interment to take place at the Yelverton United Church cemetry at Yelverton. Deepest sympathy is extended to Joe's wife Ida, their two daughters and their son and other immediate relatives in their sad bereavement. bereavement. Hi! My name is Tanner Dale Millson. Lynn who, is the ; daughter of Linda and Lawrence Mcweughlin of Nestleton j s a graduate of Cartwright High School and is in second year Agricultural Economics at Guelph University. Lynn has 34 4-H projects. Mrs. Louella Lewis of Mount Albert, a provincial director of F.W.I.O. will present the Hoodless Lee Scholarship Scholarship to Lynn at her home on Monday afternoon. Congratulations Lynn for this achievement. Last Tuesday a successful Ladies Jitney was held at the local arena. Following some very close games, vice-president Mary DeMerchant presented prizes to the two high teams in the first draw. 1. Melanie Wright, Jill Leach, Deb VanCamp and Jennifer Fletcher and 2. Carol Gray, Helen Nesbitt, Liz Luke and Lisa Kristensen. Winners of the second second draw were 1, Cindy Werry, Jackie Beddome, Valerie Van- Camp, Eileen McLaughlin; 2. Mary Mackie, Kathleen Petrie, Sandy Churchill, Jennifer Fletcher. Mary and her committee was thanked for their efforts in making a successful day. Twelve teams entered the mixed bonspiel held Saturday, January 3 sponsored by Keith Davidson of Keith's Flowers in Uxbridge. 1st Prize winner - Howard Bailey, Tara Bailey, John Green and Anne-Marie Hoogeveen while second place was won by Aileen VanCamp, Merrill VanCamp, Valerie VanCamp and Merlin Suggitt. Third place was taken by Philip Sturch, Bernice Smith, Rick and Shirley Dingman and fourth won by Rom Vice, Donna Donna Kyte, Roy McLaughlin and Deb Vice. A delicious ham dinner was prepared and served by the A.C.W. at the Parish Hall. Following the presentation of the prizes an entertaining entertaining Dart Game was enjoyed. It was a fine day of keen curling and great fellowship. Christmas dinner guests of Albert and Kathleen Watts were her brother and his wife Irene and Anson Anson Taylor of Scarborough. On Sunday, Sunday, Dec. 28 the Watts hosted another dinner and the guests were Katherine and Melanie Devins of Iroquois Falls, Carolyn and Gordon Redican, Peter and Stephen of Bramalea. Neil and Noreen Malcolm hosted their family for both Christmas and New Year's Dajr dinners. Bob and Rebecca Helsdon received received a belated Christmas present on the 29th with the arrival of a 10 lh. baby boy. Congratulations to the entire entire family. Mr. and Mrs. David Vemest and small boys had the misfortune to have a chimney fire that caused considerable damage to their home east of Blackstock. Fortunately the damage was such that permitted them to move back into their home which is undergoing repairs. On New Year's Day Kathleen and Albert Watts were the guests of Irene and Anson Taylor at a dinner party at Conway Place. Recently Kathleen .and .Albert Watts were Saturday evening dinner dinner guests of Jean and Wes McMahon of Bethany. Now that Christmas vacation is over our many University and College College Students have returned to their studies. A few changes have been made. Howard Bailey returns to Wilfred Laurier, Waterloo after completing another work term. Karen Duivesteyn has completed her teacher training at Queen's and will be returning to this area for extensive extensive teaching practice and to Trent University to complete the course. Diane Fletcher will be starting starting her studies at Durham College having transferred from Guelph University. Best wishes are extended extended to all of our students as they continue continue in their courses. There were 6 tables at the weekly weekly card party with the following winners-1. winners-1. The O.N.O. sponsored party at the. -Reç, Centr£ was afine success. The annual New Year's Day gathering gathering of the Ferguson descendants took place at the Recreation Centre. Approximately 60 members enjoyed a delicious pot-luck dinner with an hour spent skating at the nearby arena. Most of the group remained for supper. Members of the clan were present from Oakville, Toronto, Toronto, Richmond, B.C., Belleville, Brampton, Stouffville and neighbouring areas. Sorry to report that Mrs. Audrey MacNeil of Toronto, fell while visiting visiting her sister Mrs. Muriel Hoskin. She was taken to North Western. Hospital, Toronto where her broken hip was pinned. Her many relatives and friends from this area send her get-well wishes. Bill and Sheila Shortridge enjoyed a few days holiday in Niagara with friends over the New Year holiday. Stephanie and Casey spent the time with their grandparents, Hector and 1 May Shortridge. Many from this area attended thei annual New Year's Reception of Allan and Moira Lawrence, held at the Orono Town Hall on Sunday, January 4 th. Bill and Sheila Shortridge, Stephanie and Casey, Hector and May Shortridge were Christmas Day guest of Sheila's sister Judy and Murray Tompkins at Newmarket. The annual meeting of the Blackstock Youth Group was held at the Blackstock United Church on Sunday, January 4 th. Past presidènt Brent McLaughlin conducted the electors. Claire MacKenzie was voted President, Kevin Gibson vice president, Esther Kelly secretary and Ken Wilson treasurer for 1987. 1 The programme for the evening was a slide show by Esther Kelly of her English exchange in Auguot.
