14 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, January 14,1987 Eagles Lose to Bruins By Dan Moriaruy The Cowan Pontiac sponsored Bowmanvillc Eagles Jr C. hockey team squandered a 10-8 lead in the final eight minutes of the game to drop a 11-10 decision to the visiting Uxbridge Bruins on Sunday evening. The game had a promising start for the Eagles, who lost only their second home game of the year in 15 starts, when Darcy Huber set up Steve Terry's first goal of the game at 0147 of the first period to give Bowmanville a one goal lead. Pierre St. Amand put the Eagles up 2-0, 50 seconds later on a shot from the point. The Bruins replied with three quick goals but Terry scored his second goal of the contest at 9:21 to tie the score at 3. John Steer then scored the go-ahead goal for Uxbridge at 13:16 but Mark Hickey tied the score again less than three minutes later and the teams were tied 4-4 after 20 minutes. Chris Drcossi broke the tie for Bowmanville at 2:08 of the second period and Randy Ellis added to the lead 51 seconds later as the Eagles again grabbed a two goal lead. Kevin Smith replied for the Bruins at 8:44 to narrow the lead to 1 goal. Scott Heard restored the two goal advantage at 12:12 but Smith scored a late goal to make it 7-6 Bowmanville heading into the third period. Brian Heard tipped in a bullet drive from the point by Steve Flintoff to again give the Eagles a two goal lead and Mark Mickey stretched the advantage to 3 goals as the Eagles scored two early goals to open each of the three periods. Chris Brown and Todd Williamson scored to narrow the lead to just one goal until Bowmanville's Rob Schlecter was awarded a penalty shot at 11:18. As Schlechter skated in on a breakaway he was tripped by an Uxbridge player resulting in what is considered the most exciting play in hockey - the penalty shot. Rob made no mistake as he beat Uxbridge goalie Scott Irvine to give Bowmanville its fourth two goal lead of the game. Unfortunately, Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Bruins fought back with 3 goals to win the hockey game. Notes: going into Sunday's game, the Eagles lead Port Perry by one point for 1st place in the overall standings.... First place Bowmanville Bowmanville Restaurant remained remained undefeated as they hammered Bobbie's Clip Joint 11 - 1 while Jamieson Carpentry went on a scoring spree against the hapless McDonald's Falcons, winning winning 15 - 6. Gary Leach, Paul Passant and Brad Godfrey all scored twice and added an assist for the restaurant squad in the opener while Rick Bain chipped in a goal and three helpers, Darral Osmond, Dave Tabb and Steve Allen all had a goal and an assist with Darcey Ritchie notching a single. John Allen and R. McIntosh earned 2 assists as Dave Refuse Refuse and J. Maclnnis rounded out the scoring with one assist each. Tom Plunkett scored the lone Bobbie's' goal from G. Casiato in front of overworked overworked goalie Rick Clarke. Nine players shared in the scoring for Jamieson Carpentry in game 2 led by the 9 point performances of linemates Joey Burns (7 goals, 2 assists) and Scott Plume (3 goals, 6 assists). Other scorers were as follows follows -- Russ Maxwell (1 + 5), L. White (2 + 2), J. Wood (1 + 1),J. Moored + 1), Rob Maddock and D. Wilbur (2 assists each) and Paul Dad- son (1 assist). For the Falcons, who scored some, but must have felt that their opponents were playing with 3 pucks, George Svetec was the offensive offensive leader with a goal and 2 assists. Mike Byrnes, Ernie Csizmadia and Kevin Roach all scored once and added an assist, while Jamie Perfect and Paul Sobil notched singles. Captain Captain Bunny Ryan, struggling through his first full season as a defenceman earned a single assist. Restaurant Losers After 15 league games, the Boys in Blue finally tasted defeat Jan. 4th as they were nipped at the wire by Jamieson Carpentry 5 - 3 in one of the most exciting contests of the season. Doug Wilbur scored twice for the winners, including the clincher into an empty net while Joey Burns, S. Kitchen and Russ Maxwell added singles. R. Master- son, Rob Maddock, L. White, L. Sheppard, B. Gary Leach got the Bowmanville Bowmanville Restaurant team back on the winning track Jan. 11th with a fine 3 goal 3 assist performance in game 1. Other scores for the "Blues" as they rolled to an 11-4 win over Bobbie's Clip Joint were John Allen (1 goal, 3 assists), Rick Bain (2 goals, 2 assists), J. Maclnnis (1 goal, 2 assists), Steven Allen (1 goal, 2 assists), Paul Passant (2 goals) and Darral Osmond (1 goal, 1 assist). For the losers, Grant Lux- ton scored twice while Andy Svetec and B. Legacy Legacy who kept his team in the game until they found their scoring touch for 5 third period scores, as they defeated the Falcons 7 - 2.
