They will then be at home to Port Perry on Saturday, January 17 for game time at 1:00 p.m. The Atom Toros will complete their season as visitors to Peterborough on Saturday, January 17. In the PeeWee division, their final game of regular play will be at home on Saturday, January 17, against Lindsay. Game time is 6:00 p.m. The Midget Toros wrap up their season at home also. "BIG" WINNERS -- Two Bowmanvillc anglers were big winners in the 1986 Molson Big Fish contest, held between between April 15 and November 30. Tom Foster reported the biggest live release rainbow for 1986, measuring 42 inches. His catch set a new record in this category. He used roe to catch the rainbow in Soper Creek. Diana Warren placed first in the catch and keep category, reeling in a 41.2 pound salmon. Her fish was caught on a spoon in mid summer in Lake Ontario off the Bowmanville Bowmanville harbour. The Peterborough Atoms paid a Monday, Dec. 8th visit to Darlington Sports Centre for a scheduled O. M. H. A. Lakeshore League game and were handed a 6-1 defeat by the Bowmanville Canadian Tire Major Atoms. The Toros' Mark Bradley icored the only'goal of thé opening period, with the assist assist going to Richard Bateman. Bateman. Bowmanville picked up two more goals in the middle middle frame, Bateman scoring from Jeff Murphy and Collin Collin Taggart notching the third goal, assisted by Jason Crosbie and Steve Deblois. Taggart picked up his second second of the contest, assisted by Crosbie and the Petes quickly got that one back less than two minutes later. Ryan Robinson closed out the scoring in the game, with the assists going to Mark Bradley and Bateman. Steve Oke made some sparkling saves to pick up the win. DUMP PETERBOROUGH 5-2 Peterborough came to the Darlington Sports Centre again for a game on December December 20th and were handed a 5-2 setback at the hands of the Bowmanville Canadian Tire Major Atoms.' Richard Bateman scored the opening goal, assisted by Jeff Murphy and defenceman defenceman Jason Hoffman. Only one second remained in the opening frame when defenceman Jason Crosbie scored, assisted by Ryan Robinson and "Chuck" Carr. The "Tiremen" picked up two more goals in the middle middle period with JeffMurphy scoring, assisted by Robinson. Robinson. Ryan Ferguson fired the fourth Toro goal, assisted assisted by Captain Steve Dc- blois and Gary Adams. Peterborough scored two quick goals in the final period to close the gap only to have Ryan Robinson score with 1:02 remaining in the game, assisted by Richard Bateman. Steve Oke had to make some glittering glittering stops, particularly early in the game to pick up the victory. The Bowmanvillc Major Atoms, sponsored by Canadian Canadian Tire, took part in the second Annual Christmas Tournament sponsored by the Bowmanvillc Minor Hockey Association, wore defeated by Port Perry 4-2 in the "A" Championship game played on Sunday, December December 28th. The Atoms' first game was played on Friday with Oslinwa Black Hawks of the Little N. II. L, supplying the opposition. The Toros defeated defeated them to the tune of 6-0 with Steve Oke recording recording a well-deserved slmt- mil. Richard Bateman scored the game-winning goal at the 7:45 mark of the opening period, assisted by Ryan Robinson and de fenceman Jason Crosbie. Team Captain Steve Deblois Deblois scored the second Toro goal, with the assists going to Jeff Murphy and defenceman defenceman Jason Hoffman. Murphy notched the third goal, assisted by linemates Bateman and Mark Bradley. With 1:50 remaining in the first' frame, Steve Deblois Deblois scored the fourth goal, assisted by his wingers Collin Collin Taggart and Gary Adams. Only 28 seconds were remaining in the middle middle period when Collin Taggart Taggart scored, with the assist going to Hoffman. Gary Adams closed out the scoring in the game with a goal at the 5:22 mark of the third period, assisted by Deblois and defenceman Sean Brown. BEAT MISSISSAUGA The Toros' next game was against Mississauga, with the "Tiremen" prevailing to the tune of 6-0. Defenceman Jason Crosbie scored the game-winner at the 6:35 mark of the opening period. Steve Deblois scored the second Toro goal, assisted by Ryan Robinson. Robin son fired the third Bowmanville Bowmanville goal, assisted by "Chuck" Carr. Jason Crosbie Crosbie notched his second of the game, with the assist going to goaltender Steve Oke. Mark Bradley picked up the fifth goal, assisted by Jeff Murphy. Ryan Robinson Robinson scored the sixth goal and his sec'qncV'ofihe game, assisted, by Ryan Ferguson and Carr. DUMP THE DEVILS Bowmanville now met the Toronto Devils in the Division Division final, with the Toros winning to the tune of 6-1. Steve Deblois opened the scoring, assisted by Gary Adams and defenceman Jason Hoffman. Richard Bateman scored just 27 seconds seconds later, assisted by Ryan Robinson and Ryan Ferguson. Ferguson. Collin Taggart scored the third Bowmanville goal, assisted by defenceman Sean Brown and Hoffman. Toronto got one back only to have Jason Crosbie reply for the Toros, assisted by Adams. The visitors scored early in the third period but Robinson scored assisted by Crosbie. The final goal for the game was scored by Bateman, assisted by his wingers Mark Bradley and JeffMurphy. Steve Oke was strong in goal for the Toros. LOSE IN FINAL The stage was now set for the "A" final 1 with Port- Perry whdhad ? iv0ri tUeir'dUS vision^ The Toros struck ill 16 ) the first goal, coming off t' 1 j stick of Ryan Robinson, assisted assisted by Steve Deblois and Jason Crosbie. Port Perry tied the score with only 16 seconds remaining in the first period. Jason Crosbie scored on a blistering shot, from the point, assisted by Mark Bradley and Jason Hoffman. The Port Perry club scored two more to go ahead and with the Toros' goaltender pulled in favor of the extra attacker, scored into the open net for a well- deserved victory. The Toros finished the tournament playdowns with 14 and 1/2 out of a possible possible 15 points. They were also without the services of defenceman Chad Van- derende who was out of action action due to illness. Two Wins for Novice Selects December started on a losing note for the Bowmanville Frank's Variety Novice Selects but the new year began with two well deserved and hard fought wins. On December 6, Bowmanville lost the first game of the season followed immediately by three more. The four games, played in eight days, were against Oshawa CIIL Selects, Whitby/Brooklin Selects (2) and Oshawa NASC Selects. Only three goals were scored by Bowmanville in those four games, all of them by Peter Schoep. Assists were credited to Garrett MacDonald, Shawn Broome, Steven Brinkman and Stephen Coggins. A win against the Oshawa CYO Selects on December 20 broke Bowmanvillc's four game losing streak. The only goal of the game came late in the third period when Garrett MacDonald scored his fifth of the season on an assist by Peter Schoep and Brendan Pearce. With a minute left to play Oshawa used six attackers in on effort to lie the game but were prevented from scoring by an excellent effort put forth by Bowmanville. The goaltender for Bowmanville, Brad Delorme, was instrumental in the win us lie made some beautiful saves on several breakaways. He earned a well deserved shutout. The tide turned again for Bowmanville when they were trounced hy the Ajax Selects 5- 1 on December 27. Bowmanvillc's single goal was scored by Stephen Coggins (his third of the season) and assisted hy linemates Les McC'rory and Brendan Pearce. Although the game was full of close calls and missed opportunities and was an exciting one for the spectators. On New Year's Day, Bowmanville was hosted by the Ajax Selects. The game was delayed for over one hour but the wait was worth it for the players and fans as Bowmanville came from behind on a two goal lead to score didn't indicate it, this win it 3-2. Peter Schoep led off the scoring for Bowmanvillc on a pass from defenceman Brad Ormislon in the second period. Later in the same period, Kevin Martin scored his third of the season on a breakaway to tie the game. Shawn Broome, fed hy Steven Brinkman, made a beautiful pass to set up the breakaway. Midway through the third period, Peter Schoep scored iiis ninth of the season to win the game by slipping a loose puck underneath the goallcnder's pads. Shawn Broome and David Chambers earned the assists. Through the luird efforts of the defencemen and goaltender the lead was maintained until the final buzzer. On January 4, Bowmanvillc again played host to the Oshawa CYO Selects. Oshawa led off the scoring early in the first period but five minutes later Bowmanville evened it up when Shawn Broome scored his third of the season. Kevin Martin and Philip Gushulak earned the assists. In the second period a shot by Bowmanvillc's Peter Schoep was stopped by the Oshawa goaltender but Brendan Pearce was there to shoot in the rebound giving him his first goal of the season. It wasn't long before Oshawa scored to tic the game. Bowmanville never gave up trying and with only twenty-seven seconds remaining in the game Les McCrory put it past the Oshawa goaltender to regain the lead. Assists were given to Kevin Martin and Robbie Harness. Oshawa pulled their goaltender but the same Bowmanvillc line put it in the empty net. Les McCrory was credited witli his fourth goal of the season and Kevin and Robbie earned the assists.
