There are already a number of wheelchair athletes who play rugby Wednesdays at Vanier Collegiate Collegiate and at the Oshawa Civic Dome. The 16 Division ' (Bowmanville) Police Station staff organized the suc- ; cessful wheelchair rugby tournament on Saturday, April 11 at Bowmanville High School. Among the competitors competitors in the tournament were teams from Waterloo, Oshawa and Toronto. For further information on the . upcoming league contact Chris Partridge at 16 Division Division or 623-6165. COULD IT BE TRUE? -- There is a possibility that Toronto Toronto Maple Leaf owner, Harold Ballard, really has a „vheart. But don't tell anyone you read it here. In an incident preceding the above mentioned wheelchair rugby tournament, Mr. Ballard displayed a completely ' different side than we usually see. Chris Partridge had | written a letter to Mr. Ballard requesting an autog- ; raphed hockey stick to be used as.a draw prize in the tournament. In the course of the letter hé mentioned that one of the wheelchair athletes was a really big fan of the Leafs' Wendel Clark. A package arrived, special delivery, and in it was Wendel Clark's sweater which subsequently went to a lucky wheelchair athlete as a memento of the tournament. It is a mystery exactly where the sweater came from, and Wendel hasn't been shirtless lately. But the possibility does exist that Mr. Ballard is secretly a nice guy. Wonder if the recentLeaf victories could result in a total personality change. OFF ROAD RACING -- The Radio Controlled Off Road Racing Club is opening for another year. EVENING PRIMROSE A Blossoming Remedy for PMS Women like to get flowers, but there's a little yellow flower that is really making a lot of ladies smile. It's called Evening Primrose and it doesn't come in a vase, or a bouquet. It mostly comes in capsules from your health food store. The oil of evening primrose has provided many women with relief from the unpleasant symptoms of premenstrual premenstrual syndrome. The reason is essential fatty acids, or EFA. They arc essential because the body needs them, but doesn't manufacture manufacture them. They arc more like a protein or vitamin than a fat, in fact they're sometimes sometimes called "Vitamin F". EFAs perform a variety of bodily functions: they arc vital for our metabolism; they insulate nerves; they help maintain body temperature; and they give energy. By keeping cell membranes flexible flexible and by protecting tissues, tissues, fatly acids contribute to the overall health of cell membranes and the nervous system. Mood changes, Irritability, fluid retention, headaches and skin problems are among the symptoms of PMS that plague many women. While we are not sure exactly why evening primrose oil alleviates alleviates these symptoms in some women, it has to do with the fact that prior to menstruation, menstruation, there may be a shortage of fatty acids and an excess of a female hormone called prolactin. prolactin. It appears that a component component of evening primrose oil can reduce the impact of this hormone and offer relief. Oil from evening primrose seeds contains known fatty acids, called oleic (pron: olayik) and linolcic, but they also provide a less common fatty acid "gammalinolcnie" acid, or GLA. GLA has been shown to help control blood cholesterol. It has been recommended recommended by some doctors for victims of multiple sclerosis, especially where a deficiency of fatty acids is apparent. apparent. Tests have been done, and arc continuing, on its effectiveness effectiveness in preventing excessive excessive blood clotting, alleviating alleviating problems of the skin, hair and nails, and reducing reducing blood pressure. More information is becoming available available every day on evening primrose oil. A blooming good idea from Mother Nature.
