DURHAM CENTRAL BANQUET BANQUET The annual meeting and banquet of the Durham Central Central Agriculture Fair Board met Wed. night, April 15th in main hall of Orono United Church, with an excellent crowd of 116 persons. President Ray Staples wel- by Isabelle Challice corned the crowd and opened the meeting with the singing of "O Canada" with Mrs. Joyce Gray at the piano, and grace by Isabelle Challice. Head table guests were introduced introduced by 2nd Vice Pres. Carol Bailey - Past Pres. Howard Howard and Mrs. Bradley, President President and Mrs. Ray Staples; Mr. and Mrs. Denis Yellow- lees (Sec.) Manager and Mrs. Mac Ransberry, 2nd Vice Pres. Carol and Wayne Bailey. Bailey. The 1st Vice Pres. Grant Yeo and Miss Durham Central were absent, due to illness. Special guests included, Judge Dick Lovekin, Mr. Sam Cureatz M.P.P., Mr. and Mrs. Rod Hamre (newly elected Liberal Candidate for Durham East), and representatives from Millbrook Correctional Institution, who assist us. President Staples thanked the U.C.W. for the delicious roast beef dinner, and also all the directors and members of fair board for their excellent support. The musical entertainment "The Trinity Music Makers" came from the Cobourg area. A very enjoyable music menu was presented by this talented group, of instrumentals, solos, solos, ducts, and the youngest member of group, dancing. One of die closing numbers, numbers, "Amazing Grace," with audience joining in, and a hearty round of applause from the crowd for the marvellous program. Another highlight of the evening was the surprise presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Garnet, a service certificate to Garnet, and a lovely bouquet of roses for Annabelle. Mr. Staples stated garnet had contributed contributed so much through many years, of especially sponsoring our "Miss Durham Central" contest. Complex hall, when family, relatives and friends gathered to honor a very special lady. Mrs. Gladys Gladys Trimble, Bowmanville, and lovingly called "Nan", by all her family, celebrated her 95th birthday! The hall was beautifully decorated with tables in pale yellow cloths and mauve decorations. Fresh spring flowers on all tables and silver candelabra on head table. Birthday balloons were over the guest of honor's head. Special congratulations were received from the following following - Flowers from Town of Newcastle, and personal greetings from Mayor Winters. ORONO UNITED CHURCH NEWS The sacrament of communion communion was celebrated at the Good Friday evening service, with members of both Kirby and Orono congregations in attendance. The music was very meaningful and choir anthems anthems excellent. We thank the members of Cubs and Beavers for their generous gift of a lovely wall clock, for the upper C.E. auditorium, auditorium, Orono United Church.
