Our "very best wishes" and heartiest "congratulations" to them. Nestleton Presbyterian Church In a beautiful setting of Easter Lillies and Flowers..the morning service was in charge of Rev. Fred Swann. Psalm 16 was read in unison, and Ch. 28 of St. Matthew. Also from the "Living Faith" - "Descipleship." Introducing the sermon on Easter - "The real meaning of Resurrection." Resurrection." Rev. Swann read from I Corinthians, Corinthians, Ch. 15. Miss Alison Scott sang, "The Holy City" and was accompanied accompanied by Miss Peggy Scott - flute - and Mrs. Joyce Taylor - organ. Very lovely I Caesarea News Items The pot luck supper on April 15, at the Caesarea Centre was very enjoyable enjoyable with many delicious dishes to choose from. After the supper the card party was held. First prize winner winner - Gerry Taylor with 82. Paul Radford it Eva MacDonald tied for second place with 77, Low - Mary Ryan with 51. Again this Wed. for a pleasant evening. Nestleton United Church The Good Friday Service hosted by Nestleton United for the Blackstock Charge with Rev. Dale Davis conducting same was most impressive. A large wooden Cross and Crown of Thoms rested on the Communion table. Readings by various members from Blackstock k Nestleton Church congregation, interpersed by choral responses and anthems by the choir and two beautiful solos by Herbert Vine made for a very meaningful Good Friday Service. Gwendolyn Malcolm - organist. Nestleton Easter Service On a lovely Spring morning...greeters morning...greeters at the door were Arnold Arnold k Jean Williams. Many worshippers worshippers were on hand for this special Easter celebration. Opening with the Processional hymn, "Christ the Lord is Risen To-day." Rev. Dale Davis spoke on, "Do Not Be Afraid 1 ' based on Scripture Acts 10: 34-43 k Matthew 28: 1-10 read by Mabel Cawker. The Junior choir sang a fine number, "Time To ' 'MrihV ' ir'alLwith Janice MacKenzie MacKenzie leading & Betty Headon at the piano. Lovely Easter Lillies enhanced enhanced the Sanctuary. The celebration closed with the very appropriate number, "Lord of the Dance," Benediction and Three Fold Amen. Easter News Guests with Mrs. Neta Fish for the Easter weekend were: Jim k Audrey Leishman, Jamie k William of Reaboro and Keith k Rhonda Bannister k Nicole of Peterborough. Get Well So pleased to hear that Mrs. Charlie (Clara) Nesbitt of Bowmanville, Bowmanville, is now at home and feeling much better after surgery and spending spending sorrie weeks in the Riverdale Hospital, Toronto. Clara is a former Nestleton girl. Our best to her. Caesarea Community Church On Easter Sunday, a very large congregation at Caesarea Church. Dan Pugh, Sr. gave the opening Prayer. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford used used as his sermon theme, "Sorrowful Christians" - a meaningful Yelverton and District On Tuesday, April 14th, ; Yelverton U.C.W. held a very 5 successful Fashion Show in i : ij the Church Hail with over 130 5 ladies in attendance from all the surrounding towns and ' villages, as well as our own community. The main feature : following a delicious dessert and coffee session, was the modelling of Tops and Trends provided by Carol Gray, with scarves by Marilyn Wallace and jewellery by Marie Muscovy. The highlight of the evening, no doubt, was the fine • array'of designer furs presented presented by Paula Lishman Furs. f Contributing to the demonstration demonstration was the peppy piano music supplied by Dorothy Bristow. The models who deserved 1 considerable acclaim for their , contribution were Karen : Prouse, Laurie Robinson, Lor- raine Preston, Lorraine Nesbitt, Nesbitt, Jeanine Carson, Lynn j Moore and our "model" wife Corrie Malcolm. Atten dance was augmented by a number of relatives visiting their families in the area.- Mr. and Mrs. Dave Robinson Robinson and family of Stroud were weekend visitors with the Balfour Balfour and Oram Moore's. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Robinson returned recently spending a pleasant two week's sojourn in Florida. They must have brought the Florida weather home with them for everyone enjoyed Sunday's seasonably hot weather - up to 85 degrees F. Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Robinson, Robinson, who live near Ottawa, were weekend visitors with the Robinson families. Holiday weekend visitors at Malconia included Bob and Mtitzi Fick (and Molson) of Ajax, Louis and Elizabeth Nasata of Mississauga, Marti, Jane and Dionne of Omemee and Mona Malcolm of Ajax. Master Kendal and Miss Allison Allison Baker of Toronto were guests this weekend with Doris and Art Rowan. Mr, and Mrs. Orval Quackenbush had a break from routine this weekend when they were guests at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough - another honeymoon perhaps?? perhaps?? Dorothy and Gerald Bristow have opened their weekend chip and hot dog stand at Yelverton's four corners and will probably be open for business business every weekend from now until fall. Keep your wife for a pet and pick up a snack at the Bristow's this weekend. OBITUARY Lesley John MncDcrmnid, a distinguished police veteran for more than 32 years, died last Friday, April 17th, at Oshawa General Hospital after a two year battle with cancer. MncDcrmnid, known ns 'Red' to friends and family, was only one month away from celebrating his 33rd year ns a police officer. A staff sergeant with the Bowmanville detachment of the Durham Regional Police since 1974, lie is best remembered remembered by some for his part in preventing a bank robbery in Orono in 1954. MncDcrmnid was only a rookie at the time of the robbery robbery nnd received a commendation commendation for his efforts. In I960, lie was promoted to detective, and four years later lie ninde detective sergeant. sergeant. He Inter became a staff sergeant sergeant in Oslmwn in 1972, and was transferred to the 13ow- mnnville detachment in 1974 after Durham Region was incorporated, incorporated, MncDcrmnid leaves behind Iris wife, Olga, his mother Mnrgnrct Martin and sisters, Ruth Hurst, Joy Bills, Rene Tymko nnd Mario Rotisea. Pine Ridge Hosts District Horticultural Convention by Marlene VVerry Rural Organization Specialist The Pine Ridge Horticultural Society hosted the recent District Seventeen Convention in Nestleton. Over one hundred members of local Horticultural Societies and Garden Clubs participated in the day's activities. In the district elections Isabelle Challice, Orono, will represent the District^ as Director to the Ontario Horticultural Association. Vicki Lesnick, Newcastle and Ken Brown, Brooklin were elected Assistant Directors, while Betty Van Burren will be their new Secretary-Treasurer. In the Junior Division of the Show, entries Carl Rothfels, R.R. 1, Pefferlaw was awarded "Best in Show" in the ten years and over age group, and Rueben De Jong, Orono, won the "Best in Show" for six to ten years. In the Society Displays, Pickering Horticultural Society placed first, Oshawa Garden Club, second, and Pine Ridge Garden Club, third. Pine Ridge also placed third in the Yearbook Competition with the Oshawa Club capturing first place. Merlin Slute, Bowmanville, was awarded first prize with his entry in the "Happy 10th Anniversary" section.
