Waverley School Events Hone-Bender Wedding itiyiANN/^ Parent Advisory Committee By Jason Moore Every month the Parent Advisory Committee meets with Mr. Reid, Mr. Thompson, staff members and other parents in the school. They meet to discuss the different school events and how they can help out. On Monday, April 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the agenda consisted of three main topics. The first presentation presentation was from three grade one teachers: Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. VanSeggelen and Mrs. Snowden about the grade one writing program. The three teachers brought along some samples of a few grade one stories and told those present BAHAM FAITH "The state of prayer Is the best of conditions, for man Is then associating with God. Prayer verily bestoweth life, particularly when offered In private and at times, such as midnight, when freed from daily cares." For Information call 623-7621 or 623-9277 how important it was to encourage children to do more writing at home. Through creative writing children learn how to read, use their imagination, spell and how to use proper grammar. The committee also discussed discussed the idea of having a farewell farewell party for the grade sixes since it is their last year at Waverley. A sheet was sent around to the three grade six classrooms asking for suggestions suggestions for the party. Some suggestions were: having a barbeque, watching movies on the VCR, receiving diplomas and having the grade sixes run the day and many more. The last idea sounds interesting! On May 23 this year at Waverley there is going to be a yard sale. The parent advisory advisory committee also discussed this at the meeting. People from the community will be donating different items to the sale. Waverley students will be making colorful posters to advertise this event and there will also be ads in The Statesman. Be sure to look for the posters posted around town. All of the proceeds will be going to our school for buying new computers and other learning materials. These Parent Advisory meetings sure do a lot for the students. What will they think of next? My Science Fair Experience By Matthew Garrett When I was at Cobourg Science Fair I heard about another Science Fair in Peterborough Peterborough and I decided to go to it. At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, mÿ Dad and I left for Peterborough. When we got there I was assigned to the computer project room. There were many other projects under different categories in other rooms. I was surprised at all of the computers. There was one student who had three computers, two monitors, one giant disk drive and two VCR's. He did a project on graphics. At 2:30 p.m. I saw a presentation by a man from the Science Centre. He did all kinds of neat things. I'm going back next year and I hope you do too.
