May 13,1987 7 Police Brief A 23-year-old Bowmanville Bowmanville man was one of two people charged with related related weapons offences after canoeists on Lake Ontario Ontario heard shots fired on Sunday. Durham Regional Police report that two men in a canoe heard shots and "whizzing noises went past : their heads". Police investigated the incident at about 1:30 p.m. ■ By 2:15 p.m., they had seized two .22 calibre rifles and laid related weapons "charges. i Someone decided to take shots at the Hampton Post ' Office. YMCA Announces 1987 Riding Camp The Durham Region Family YMCA is proud to announce our Riding Camp for 1987. This year our famous camp will be held at Paddock Stables. Owner Vicki Rose and returning Camp Director Sophie Lefebvre are looking forward to this exciting change. Campers will have the opportunity to pursue their interest in horses in a formal setting, while at the same time, enjoying large playing fields, grassed open areas, and an indoor craft area. Our Riding Camp program will include horsemanship, lungeing and riding lessons (English instruction), with approximately three hours per day involvement in horsemanship. horsemanship. On Tuesday evening the general meeting of the United Church Women was held in the basement of Garden Hill Church. I was unable to attend so have no report other than to remind us of the Strawberry Supper on the 19th of June. On Wednesday the church members had a look at the photos taken about a month ago that are to go in a Hope Charge booklet for the members. On Thursday it was the seniors birthday pot luck dinner at Campbellcroft. Birthdays celebrated were Mrs. Lewko and Mrs. Barkwell. Mrs. Yvonne Baziw brought a birthday cake for the dinner and her brother celebrated also. Euchre was played and Miss Ona Gardiner, Mrs. Mae Muldrew and Mrs. E. Longyear won prizes. Mrs. Wheeler won the U.K.O. prize. I attended the Shiloh Fashion Parade held at the church which proved to be very interesting. This display was put on by a clothing store just opened in Orono. A number of Shiloh ladies were the models along with some of the store personnel. Outfits for all seasons were shown and a large display of articles was set up in the school room for sale. There were several door prizes drawn, and the Shiloh ladies served lunch, On Sunday we had no service at Garden Hill but it was anniversary at Welcome with lunch following. I attended the Shiloh Anniversary Anniversary where Mrs. Jackson Peacock was the speaker, The choir invited was unable to come but they sent an excellent excellent soloist who accompanied herself on the piano. Mrs. Yvonne Plooard Is no better, She Is in Peterborough Hospital. Mrs. Mac Muldrew had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. B. McIntosh on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. K, Trcw were In Stirling at Mr. and Mrs. G. Fowler's Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. R. Russell and Rodger called at Fowlers this week on the way to Oslmwn. Mr. and Mrs. II. Qunntrill had ten with Mr. and Mrs. E. Robinson and attended Shiloh church anniversary on Sunday.
