It was held in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry, with guests present from The Beaches, Birchcliff, West Hill, Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville, and Sunland. Chapters, for this "gala" event. They were given a warm, fraternal welcome in the East by Worthy Matron Elsie Wilbur, assisted by Past Patron, Sam Cawker. This was a special night for Carousal Matrons, Patrons & Associates & they were warmly welcomed. Several dignitaries were greeted in the East. During the business session a report was given re- the Luncheon & Card party convened by Marjorie McCombe which was a fine success with a nice sum raised for the Estarl fund. The Masonic Ladies night was an enjoyable evening and a success as well. The Worthy Matron's special project...a Wheel-chair for Central Seven for the Mentally Handicapped Handicapped is moving along by "leaps and bounds" with between $350 and $400 raised. We are well on the way folks in our Benevolent work. 25 year pins were presented to P.P. Merlin Suggitt, Ruby Smith and Doris Evans. - Our congratulations! After the meeting closed...a humorous skit was presented by a group of Eastern Star Officers much to the delight of all. These girls have talent - plus I The Hall was decorated artistical- ■ ly by thé committee with the Carousal theme - the Fun Cymbol being the Teddy Bear - So - we had a "Teddy Bear Picnic"...a veryeffective veryeffective decorating idea with Teddies and Balloons combined for a novel arrangement! We commend, the committee for a super job! Lovely refreshments were..baskets of finger rolls, salads, individual jellies, topped off with . Teddy Bear cake..made by Judy MitdielLand tea & coffee. The committee committee under the direction of Marguerite Mitchell was fantastic adding flavor 4 zest to the party! Our warmest thanks! Keep in mind the Auction Sale to be held May 30, at the Masonic Hall. Items to be brought to the hall Friday Friday evening, May 29, from 7-9 p.m. The Eastern Star is featuring a bake sale as well. Be as supportive as possible for this money raising venture. News Of Cancer Canvass Have just received the approximate approximate total for Cartwright Township Cancer Drive - so - felt I'd like to pass on the good news to the volunteers and the donors. We are well over the amount collected last year (1986) which amounted to $4,369.00. This year (1967) the tidy sum amounts to over $6,000.00. A full report will appear in this column shortly..when all kits are in, and proceeds are tabulated, also a note of appreciation. Watch this paper for the report! District Annual Attended The day long District Annual Meeting re-the nine Branches of Ontario Ontario South District was held in Brookiin United Church, Thursday, May 21, with some 70 delegates attending, attending, 14 members were present from Honeydale Br. The lovely luncheon at the noon hour was enjoyed with the U.C.W. members of the Brookiin United Church catering. District President Mrs. Alva Thompson of Scugog Br. retired from office..and our new District President is Mrs. Helen McKean from Greenbank Br. Caesarea Euchre Party For the regular Wednesday evening evening card game the winners were: First prize winner-Mary Foots with 86. Second prize winner - Eva MacDonald MacDonald with 82. Low - Gwen Robins with 48. Lunch was convened by Irene Train 4 Faith Lawrence. A very good attendance! Keep up the good work folks, and support the Ladies Auxiliary..a hard working, dedicated group! Lively Auction Sale of Interest At Nestleton W.I. The lively Auction sale of plants, bulbs, baking, etc. in charge oi Karel Nottingham,, assisted by Grace Bajema was the "highlight" of the Nestleton Branch meeting, held in the Community Centre, on Wed. May 13. Sincere appreciation to these ladies for their fine efforts which netted a considerable sum for the treasury. President Neta Fish brought the meeting to order with a cordial welcome to members and several visitors and read two interesting poems. The roll call was answered by naming something new in gardening. Norma Frew gave an excellent excellent report of the District Annual held in Kendal on May 7. The minutes were read by Secretary Gwen Malcolm and the- financial statement presented by Rika Wygerde, Treasurer. There will be some W.I. exhibits and information re - the work of Women's Institutes over the years, at the opening of Bowmanville Museum on Saturday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. Members are invited invited to this ceremony. An invitation to attend Blackstock W. I. on June 4th at 8 p.m. to hear a special It's official! The three winners of the Bowmanville Jaycette Baby Photo Contest have been announced. They are: Nicole Marie Luxton, who placed first; Emily Broome, who was second, and Jennifer Morgan Morgan who finished third out of the 50 entries. The winners were recognized on Friday, May 22, at the Bowmanville Memorial Park Clubhouse. Parents, babies and Jaycette Baby Photo Contest Committee Members are shown above. Gwen Malcolm showed some interesting "Souvenirs" of a New Zealand W.I. meeting which she attended while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in December. - The programme consisted of readings by Winnifred Davison 4 Norma Frew. A contest was conducted conducted by the president. Lunch was enjoyed after a busy afternoon, with Norma Frew and group in charge. Cards were signed for three sick people in hospital and a shut-in at home. The Sacrament of Baptism Celebrated Elizabeth Bronwyn, infant daughter of Scott 4 Joanne Cawker, Oshawa, was baptized in St. Andrew's Andrew's United Church, on Sunday, May 24th, at 11 a.m. The officiating Minister Rev. Gordon Postill was assisted by Associate Minister Mrs. Susan Genge and the Clerk of Session Session in a very impressive ceremony. Many relatives were present for this symbolic rite of the Church with deep religious significance. After the Service, Scott 4 Joanne held a baptismal party at their home in North Oshawa for Elizabeth Bronwyn Bronwyn with many present for the event. A sumptuous buffet luncheon with a lovely array of food was enjoyed enjoyed by all. No. 28 and "Living Faith" selection - "The church reaches out" with Scripture Matthew 6: 5-15. Continuing the study of the Lord's Prayer- Rev. Swann spoke of the "Sermon on the Mount" when Jesus gave us the pattern pattern of prayer beginning "Our Father ... in response to. Teach us to pray." Crawford spoke on "Believing and Receiving" an excellent message Photo Contest Supports Lung Association Courtice Pathfinder Honored With Canada Cord Canada Cord recipient Belinda Anselstetter is congratulated by her parents, Klaus and Charlotte Anselstetter and Durham East MPP Sam Cureatz. Belinda, a member of the 1st Courtice Pathfinders, received her cord last week at the Courtice United Church. The Canada Cord represents the highest achievement as a Pathfinder. Mr. Cureatz was on hand to offer his best wishes and bring a framed congratulatory letter from Premier David Peterson. The Bowmanville Jaycettes have raised a total of $200 through their recent baby photo contest. Last week, the winners of the event were announced and proceeds raised from the project were presented to the Durham Region Lung Association. The Rev. Gale Glover, Peterborough, spoke on "Gifts for Leadership", and expanded the possibilities of the new Guide Lines book for use in community planning and workshops. A gathering of United Church Women from all across Canada at Waterloo, Ontario, July 18th and 21st will celebrate nationally for the first time the heritage heritage of women of the United Church.
