i 20 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, May 27,1987 Vincent Massey Mrs. Landry's grade four class is going on a trip to Canton Pioneer School. While they are there they will be doing pioneer learning centres, for example, they will learn how to use a quill pen and look at artifacts and try to figure out what their use was. In class they are learning about native people and in June they are going on another trip as a follow-up on the native people. They are also doing a research project in the library about North American Animals. They are beginning to write their final copy from the point form notes they have taken. Sarah Oke On May 21 there was a softball tournament at Lord Elgin for the girls and Memorial Park for the boys. Vincent Massey, Central, Ontario Street and Lord Elgin were entered in the tournament. tournament. The members of the Vincent Massey boys' team are Rob Alehin, Andrew Allaire, Craig Rickard, Leon Coates, Bruce Harnum, Jamie Rekker, Jason Thompson, Tommy Hansen, Mike Jenkins, Jamie Duxbury, Clarke Gerryts and Steve Oke. And for the girls the members are Hannah Whately, Sarah Couch, Kim Bates, Kim Archer, Nanci Petri, Jessica Barrie, Robin Newell, Vicky Harris, Michelle Tierney, Sarah Oke, Donna Rodgers, Jennifer Lyle, Carolyn Watters and Shannon Wright. For the boys Central came first by defeating 2nd place team Ontario Street. Vincent Massey came third by defeating defeating Lord Elgin 11 - 7. For the girls, Vincent Massey came first by defeating defeating Lord Elgin 14 -12. Central came third and Ontario Street came last. Thank you Bobbie Taylor. Grade One Story [Mrs. Allin] On a cold night in a dark alley a tiny puppy lay shivering shivering in a box. He was cold and then there was someone going to catch him. When he got there he was lying in the corner crying. He did not know where he was. He was in the pound. He did not know anyone there. He was there until someone bought him. Reporter: Bobbie Taylor HAYDON Mrs. Norma Kennedy attended a Baby Shower given by Mrs. Dicky Bowen, Bowmanville, for Mrs. Robin Bowen where about 10 ladies got together Monday evening. Holiday Monday Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Jan) Mayor entertained entertained Mr. and Mrs. John (Lynne) Roth and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lloyd and girls and Grampa Don Pickles, Mr. Roy Paterson joined Mr. Doug Paterson, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, and Mr. Mike Paterson, Madoc, and spent the weekend at the trailer and fishing at and about Crow Lake.
