Model by Tammy Hill Newcastle Village resident resident Deanna Knight has been chosen as a semifinalist semifinalist in "Teen Magazine's" Great Model Search. Deanna received Maybel- line cosmetics, a cosmetic bag and a Great Model Search T-Shirt for being selected. But even bigger prizes such as a car, cash, and a trip to Los Angeles are in store for the eventual winner winner of the competition. That winner could be Deanna. The grade 13 student at Bowmanville High School entered the Great Model Search over a year ago and had forgotten all about the contest, thinking she hadn't won. However, her entry had been received late for last year's contest and was Alzheimer Society Dr. Maureen Gorman of the Alzheimer Socity of Durham Region Board of Directors, announced today the appointment appointment of Audrey MacLean as Co-ordinator of the Education and Family Support Program. ' Mrs. MacLean replaces Kim Furukawa who has recently recently moved to the Hamilton area. The program provides educational educational services to the general general public and health care professionals along with support support group programs for family family members of Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders' victims on a Region wide basis. Deanna commented that she had entered the event partially because it included included Canadian residents. She stated that a lot of these types of contests are open to the United States only. She explained that her uncle is a model and had been trying to convince her to go into modelling for years. But her mother had suggested that it would take away too much time from her school work. When the "Teen" contest came up "I thought there was no harm in sending in some pictures. It didn't take much time." The contest had asked that one head and shoulders shoulders shot, one full length shot, and any other pictures that captured the look and style of each contestant be summitted. A close friend of Deanna's took the 15 photographs which were sent into the contest. Deanna also has her own darkroom at home and printed each of the pictures to the exact size and quality of her choice. After being chosen as one of the semi-finalists Deanna now.has a chance of becoming one of 16 regional regional super-finalists in "Teen's" June issue. And if all goes well Deanna could be one of the 12 finalists selected by "Teen." The finalists will be flown to Los Angeles to compete in the National Finals. The winner at the Nationals will receive: an all expense- paid trip to Los Angeles, recognition as "Teen's" covergirl, a 1987 Mazda 323 Luxury Hatchback, $5,000 cash from Maybelline and an appearance in a national Maybelline ad, a $5,000 one- year modelling contract with Gilette Company, and a $1,000 wardrobe from any Ups 'N Downs Store. Although Deanna is very excited about the contest she commented that modelling modelling is not the career she is looking to pursue. "I thrive for the theatre," Deanna said. "I like the idea of being on stage." She is presently taking voice lessons and has just recently completed" her grade eight. In addition, Deanna has been a member of the Oshawa Festival Singers Singers for the past five years.
